    HEAVY CIVIL SUPERINTENDENT – DOT HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION

    Location: Moline / Quad Cities, Illinois
    Base Salary: $85,000–$115,000 based on experience
    Travel: None – all projects are local
    Typical Project Size: $4 million–$20 million
    Hiring Timeline: Immediate

    The Opportunity

    A well-established, family-owned heavy civil contractor is hiring a Superintendent to lead field operations on local DOT highway and infrastructure projects throughout the Moline and Quad Cities market.

    The company has served the region for more than 100 years and performs asphalt paving, concrete paving, grading and mass excavation, underground utilities, demolition, bridge and culvert construction, railroad work and site development.

    Its project portfolio includes interstate paving, roadway reconstruction, airport runway and taxiway construction, bridge repairs, culvert replacements and municipal infrastructure.

    This is a hands-on leadership position for a Superintendent who can plan the work, lead crews and keep projects moving safely and efficiently. All projects are local, allowing you to manage meaningful heavy civil work without being sent across the country.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead daily field operations on DOT highway and heavy civil projects valued from approximately $4 million to $20 million
    • Plan daily and weekly construction activities with the Project Manager and company leadership
    • Direct foremen, craft personnel, subcontractors, suppliers and equipment resources
    • Coordinate labor, materials and equipment to meet production goals
    • Read and interpret civil plans, specifications, schedules and contract requirements
    • Oversee paving, grading, earthwork, utilities, drainage, structures and other applicable scopes
    • Conduct daily planning and safety meetings
    • Enforce company, OSHA and project-specific safety requirements
    • Maintain quality standards and ensure work meets DOT specifications
    • Coordinate with inspectors, engineers, municipalities and other project stakeholders
    • Track quantities, manpower, equipment usage, delays and daily production
    • Identify field conflicts early and develop practical solutions with the Project Manager
    • Maintain accurate daily reports and project documentation
    • Drive schedule performance while protecting safety, quality and job profitability

    Required Experience

    • Superintendent, General Superintendent, Foreman or comparable field leadership experience with a heavy civil, highway or infrastructure contractor
    • Direct experience delivering DOT projects or comparably large heavy civil work
    • Strong understanding of roadway construction, paving, grading, earthwork, utilities, drainage or structures
    • Ability to plan field operations and lead crews in an active construction environment
    • Working knowledge of DOT specifications, inspections, quality requirements and jobsite safety
    • Ability to read civil plans, specifications and project schedules
    • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
    • Valid driver’s license

    Preferred Background

    • Experience with IDOT, Iowa DOT or another state transportation agency
    • Experience supervising projects valued between $4 million and $20 million
    • Experience working with union craft labor
    • OSHA 30 certification or the ability to obtain it
