Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent

We"re seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent who thrives in the field and takes pride in leading complex utility, site development, excavation, and roadway projects from start to finish.

What You"ll Do

As the Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent, you will lead all aspects of field operations and serve as the driving force behind project execution, safety, quality, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct daily field operations on heavy civil construction projects, including excavation, grading, paving, drainage, earthwork, milling, and underground utility installation.
  • Lead and coordinate Foremen, Equipment Operators, Laborers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers to develop work plans, schedules, site logistics, and construction sequencing.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Monitor production, schedules, manpower, equipment utilization, and project costs.
  • Provide consistent updates on project progress, challenges, and milestones to project leadership.
  • Oversee water, sewer, stormwater, and related underground utility construction activities.
  • Review plans, specifications, and project documents to ensure accurate field execution.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, municipalities, engineers, and utility representatives throughout project lifecycles.
  • Maintain exceptional quality standards and ensure all work meets project specifications and industry requirements.
  • Mentor and develop field personnel, helping build strong teams and future leaders.
  • Support field documentation, RFIs, change orders, and project reporting.
  • Assist with survey coordination, layout verification, and constructability planning.
  • Manage projects ranging from approximately $50,000 to $50+ million in value.

What We"re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent managing heavy civil construction projects.

  • Proven success leading field operations, crews, and subcontractors.

  • Strong experience with:

  • Water main installation

  • Sewer systems

  • Underground utility construction

  • Site development

  • Excavation and earthwork

  • Drainage systems

  • Roadway and paving operations

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and civil plans.

  • Strong understanding of heavy civil construction means and methods.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

  • OSHA 10 and First Aid certifications required.

  • Valid driver"s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with municipal, DOT, or public works projects.
  • Familiarity with Westchester County regulations and permitting processes.
  • Experience managing projects involving critical infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of RFIs, change orders, scheduling, and construction management processes.
  • Concrete construction and civil sitework experience.
  • Preconstruction or project planning experience.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Vernon, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $150000.00/hr.
