Superintendent of Golf
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Superintendent of Golf will oversee the performance of all the golf course maintenance and services. The position will promote an exceptional “golf experience,” and provide excellent services and programs for all patrons.
FOUR DIAMOND SERVICE AGREEMENT
All Team Members will display a Four Diamond commitment to Guest Service through the delivery and maintenance of the Quality Standards established by Pechanga Resort Casino (PRC).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee management of all golf course maintenance areas.
• Supervising the maintenance of the golf course.
• Supervising the maintenance and repair and maintenance equipment.
• Rendering professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to the facility's board of directors or managing body as required.
• Participating in all long-range planning meetings.
• Responsible for the condition of the golf operations, and the performance of the golf services.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise golf course department heads including the 1st Golf Course Assistant, 2nd Golf Course Assistant and assists with all Grounds, Landscapers and Spray Technicians.
• Coordinate and ensure all written correspondence, reporting, newsletters, and communications for the course maintenance.
• Assists Food and Beverage with banquets, outside events, and catering for all golf functions.
• Enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage.
• Develop, recommend and implement an innovative tournament program that services all guest segments.
• Responsible for all fiscal responsibilities and performance for the golf course including planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and corrective management.
• Responsible for all for golf course maintenance including planning, budgeting, monitoring and corrective management.
• Oversees the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work.
• Frequently inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs.
• Acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain the golf course and surrounding areas.
• Responsible for inventory control and oversees the equipment maintenance programs.
• Approves all expenditures and exercises cost control measures to keep, as nearly as possible, operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets.
• Keeps accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, and etc.
• Communicates regularly with other members of the top management group to discuss activities, goals, plans and member/guest input.
• Recommends operational policies, procedures and controls to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory, and resources.
• Maintain and promote a superlative professional image with the community.
• Monitor workload and make staffing recommendations accordingly.
• Responsible for purchasing maintenance equipment, golf maintenance car fleet, sod, plants, trees, fertilizer and pesticides.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff.
• Observe staff performance and create a work environment that fosters the professional development and growth of Team Members.
• Other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Superintendent of Golf position has supervisory responsibilities including departmental hiring, corrective action, terminations, Team Member relation issues, forecasting and budgeting. The Team Member is responsible for protecting the assets of PRC.

QUALIFICATIONS AND GUIDELINES

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: A Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred; and/or at least 10 years as a golf course superintendent experience required. Experience with an 18-hole golf course, comparable to Journey Golf at Pechanga, required.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: This position requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. This position also requires the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Furthermore, this position requires the ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style as well as make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: This position requires the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. This position also requires the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: This position requires the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. This position also requires the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and work with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Current California Pesticide Applicators Certificate or License – or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Current GCSAA Class A status.
• Current Driving License.
• First aid/AED certifications.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
• Requires a high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
• Requires excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Requires knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations).
• Start-up knowledge a plus.
• Requires participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days and trade shows.
• Must be a self-starter who is highly motivated and resourceful.
• Must be able to work with a positive attitude in a fast paced and culturally diverse casino environment.
• Must have a pleasant personality and present a professional image when assisting players.
• Must be flexible and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays.
• Flexibility with regard to shifts, days off, and last minute changes.
• Ability to perform under stress, noise, interruptions, constant pressure, simultaneous requests.
