Job Title: Geotechnical Construction Superintendent
Job Description
This role oversees daily construction operations on geotechnical projects, with a focus on drilling, grouting, ground support, and water control systems. The superintendent leads field crews and subcontractors, manages schedules and resources, and ensures that all work meets safety, quality, and project specifications. This position offers long-term growth opportunities, performance-based bonuses, and the chance to work on complex sitework projects in a hands-on field environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily construction operations for geotechnical projects, including drilling, grouting, ground support, and water control systems.
- Manage field crews, subcontractors, and equipment to ensure efficient and safe project execution.
- Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain project progress.
- Develop and execute detailed project schedules, work plans, and construction sequencing for each phase of the project.
- Determine labor, equipment, and material needs to support each stage of construction and keep work on schedule.
- Monitor production rates, identify bottlenecks, and implement process improvements to maintain or improve schedule performance.
- Lead daily safety meetings, reinforce strict safety standards, and conduct regular site inspections to ensure a safe work environment.
- Review plans, specifications, and project documents to ensure compliance with design, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and field documentation to track work performed, resources used, and site conditions.
- Ensure all work meets established quality standards, project specifications, and client expectations.
- Provide hands-on leadership in the field by running crews on-site, coordinating subcontractors, and owning day-to-day operations, safety, and production.
Essential Skills
- Proven geotechnical drilling experience, which is required for this role.
- Hands-on experience with drilling operations, preferably sonic drilling or similar geotechnical methods.
- Strong background in sitework projects, including excavation, ground improvement, and foundation preparation.
- Experience working on active sitework jobs rather than vertical construction or highway projects.
- Superintendent-level field experience running crews on-site, coordinating subcontractors, and managing day-to-day operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and enforce strict safety standards on active construction sites.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from plans, specifications, and project documents.
- Strong organizational skills to develop and manage project schedules, work plans, and sequencing.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with project managers, engineers, field personnel, and stakeholders.
- Capability to maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and other field documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Construction Management or a closely related field.
- Experience with ground improvement techniques and foundation preparation for geotechnical projects.
- Demonstrated ability to identify production bottlenecks and implement process improvements.
- Track record of successfully delivering projects while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
- Interest in long-term career growth within geotechnical construction and sitework operations.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role working primarily on active construction sites. Typical hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the job site, with work centered around geotechnical drilling, grouting, ground support, and water control operations. The environment involves managing crews, subcontractors, and heavy equipment in outdoor conditions, including excavation and ground improvement activities. The role requires consistent on-site presence, active participation in daily safety meetings, and adherence to site-specific safety practices and attire appropriate for a construction setting.
