The State District Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Supervising Mason with the Office of Facilities Management/Project Control. This title is governed by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission; meaning that a candidate for the position will be placed as a provisional employee. At a later date the candidate will be required to take an examination administered by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates must score and rank high enough on this examination in order to remain in the position as a permanent employee.
DEFINITION:
Under direction, supervises and works with personnel performing general masonry work required for repair, maintenance, and construction of various facilities; ensures use of approved masonry practices and conformity with applicable plans, specifications and codes; does other related duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Appointees will be required to possess a drivers license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspects, analyzes, and assists in determination of masonry work to be done.
Assigns work plans, written and/or oral, gives assignments and instructions to subordinates and supervises their work performance.
Examines work in progress to ensure the use of approved trade practices.
Checks conformity of work with applicable plans, specifications and codes.
Supervises and performs general masonry work required in the repair, maintenance and construction of various structures/appurtenances.
Supervises and performs tasks involved in plastering exteriors and interiors.
Prepares reports.
Maintains records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
