THE POSITION

The Supervising Property Assistant is a key supervisory position responsible for overseeing personnel and operations of the Evidence and Property Division, ensuring the proper handling, documentation, storage, and disposition of evidence and property. This position supervises and schedules Evidence and Property Technicians, monitors workflow, maintains the property database, conducts audits, ensures chain-of-custody compliance, and implements policies and procedures aligned with changes in laws and departmental policy. This position ensures operational efficiency by providing consistent oversight of warehouse operations, documentation accuracy, guiding process improvements, and serving as a point of contact for internal and external partners.

To plan, schedule, and supervise the personnel and work activities of units in the property Management Section of the Police Department.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The class of Supervising Property Assistant is distinguished from that of Senior Property Assistant by responsibility for the supervision of units within the Property Management Section and by the independence allowed and the greater authority granted in performing assignments. The Supervising Property Assistant is distinguished from the class of Supervisor-Property Section by the lack of full responsibility for the Management Sections function, including personnel management, systems and procedures development, and policy interpretation and implementation.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Direction is provided by the Supervisor-Property Section or Police Management personnel. Responsibilities include the direct and indirect supervision of lower level property personnel.

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be one year of experience comparable to that of a Senior Property Assistant in the City of Sacramento.

Special Qualifications:
A valid California Class C Driver License is required for appointment to this classification, and must be maintained in order to continue employment in this classification. Eligibility: Candidates who pass the Training and Experience Test will be placed on the eligible list. The hiring department may contact candidates for interview at any time during the life of the one-year list. Candidate's eligibility expires one year from the date of notification of a passing score for the Supervising Property Assistant examination.
Screening Committee: (Pass/Fail)-All candidates that pass the examination and are in one of the top three ranks will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. Human Resources will only evaluate employment applications for the minimum qualifications, as stated on the job announcement, for applications selected by the hiring department.
