Supervising Psychiatrist

The Supervising Psychiatrist provides clinical oversight, supervision, and quality assurance for psychiatric nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) and psychiatric care delivered via our virtual and urgent care platforms. This role focuses on ensuring safe, compliant, and evidence-based psychiatric practice in accordance with Georgia law and payer requirements.

Psychiatric supervision may be delivered remotely and is designed to support continuity, medical appropriateness, and compliance with state-specific collaborative practice expectations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Supervision & Collaboration

  • Serve as the official supervising/collaborating psychiatrist for Georgia-licensed PMHNPs.
  • Review clinical charts and treatment plans for quality, medical necessity, and compliance with clinical standards.
  • Provide regular case consultation and clinical decision support, including triage and acute management recommendations.
  • Support safe prescribing practices, particularly around controlled medications where required under Georgia law.

 

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure supervision activities are aligned with Georgia regulatory requirements for clinical supervision.
    • Georgia defines supervision as direct clinical review to promote clinical skill development, including case review and clinical teaching.
  • Collaborate with credentialing and compliance teams to support payer requirements, credentialing applications, and audit responses, if needed.

 

Quality Assurance & Protocol Review

  • Participate in clinical quality improvement reviews, guideline development, and risk management activities.
  • Assist in refining clinical workflows, treatment protocols, and escalation criteria for complex presentations.

 

Team Support & Education

  • Provide mentorship and feedback to PMHNPs and other clinical staff.
  • Offer periodic structured teaching sessions or case reviews as requested.
  • Act as a resource for complex clinical decision-making, documentation standards, and risk mitigation.
 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing

  • Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), Board Certified in Psychiatry.
  • Active, unrestricted Georgia medical license in good standing.
  • Active DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Member of the Piedmont Clinic.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years clinical psychiatric practice preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable using telehealth platforms, EMRs, and remote consultation tools.

 

Skills

  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to communicate recommendations clearly.
  • Familiarity with psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and psychopharmacology.
  • Understanding of PMHNP scope of practice and delegation/supervision norms in Georgia.
