If you are interested in improving the environment and advancing your career, then EKI is the place for you.ROLEThe Senior Solid Waste Engineer/Project Manager position reports to the Team Leader (TL) and is responsible for leading complex solid waste engineering and environmental remediation engineering projects under our expanding environmental engineering practice in Southern California. The role provides strategic leadership for key client initiatives, promotes technical excellence and risk stewardship, and develops and strengthens client and business relationships. This position requires strategic oversight of remediation and solid waste engineering projects and collaboration with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams to develop practical and cost‑effective solutions to complex business and technical challenges. In addition, the position will require supporting the Engineering Technical Director (TD) to grow the firm's technical capabilities and client base in the Solid Waste Engineering Sector and promote quality of client service, efficiency, and cross‑practice collaboration in the delivery of technical services.RESPONSIBILITIESYour responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to the following:Lead, guide, direct and manage complex solid waste engineering and environmental remediation projects from inception through completion to meet technical, quality, budgetary, and scheduling requirementsProvide expertise, technical guidance, oversight, and mentorship to project teams on environmental projects, fostering professional growth and technical excellenceLead the preparation of high‑quality deliverables and review and analyze data throughout design, construction and operation and maintenance phases of workOversee preparation of design and technical specification packages for environmental remediation and solid waste engineering projects such as soil vapor extraction systems, landfill gas collection and control systems, landfill geosynthetic capping systems, and vapor intrusion mitigation systemsCoordinate with client representatives, regulatory and external stakeholders, and technical subconsultantsParticipate in request for proposal evaluation, proposal preparation, client interviews, and contract negotiations, as appropriateParticipate in professional associations, including presenting technical papers or participating as a technical committee memberMaintain awareness of the external competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, and new industry developments and standardsDevelop and implement business development strategies to foster new business opportunities with a goal of sourcing significant revenues of $400,000 in year 1 ($200,000 from new clients and $200,000 from existing EKI clients), and growing to $750,000 to $1,000,000 within 3 yearsEnsure compliance with safety standards for Southern CaliforniaSupport finance and accounting to ensure compliance with billing and collection goals for Southern CaliforniaImplement policies that promote company culture and vision as developed by the EKI management teamOther duties as requiredQUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTSEducationBachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.Professional LicensureMust have Professional Civil Engineer license in the State of California or be able to obtain license within 12 months following employmentKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesA minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in remediation and/or solid waste engineering projects in CaliforniaExcellent client management skills with a proven ability to maintain long‑term client relationshipsMust have record of demonstrated business development skillsMust be able to review and edit technical reports to meet scope and quality objectives, as well as client expectationsMust be able to critically review engineering design drawings and specifications and provide feedback to designers in accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of design elementsMust be able to provide real‑time input to engineering teams during preparation of technical workplans, design deliverables, and construction submittals and requests for information from construction contractorsMust be able to provide senior oversight of construction quality assurance teamsMust have effective communication skills both oral and written, including ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, technicians, designers, engineers, owners, and other project managers for the preparation of high‑quality work productsMust have skills in quality control, planning, cost estimating, and schedulingMust have effective mentoring skillsMust be able to assign and manage workOSHA HAZWOPER training preferred but not requiredCompetenciesMust have demonstrated management skills, a strong work ethic and attention to detailMust have advanced ability to multi‑task, stay organized, work independently, and collaborate with various project teamsMust have a strong desire to grow personally as well as professionallyMust be able to develop strong relationships with clients and potential clients to position EKI to win work from these contactsMust have a current valid driver's licensePHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENTMust be able to work in a fast‑paced environment with high‑volume workload and frequent short deadlinesMust have the ability to obtain medical clearance to work on hazardous waste site(s)Must be able to lift up to 25 lbsMust be able to work remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periodsMust be able to communicate with others to exchange informationMust be able to assess the accuracy, quality and thoroughness of the work assignedTRAVEL REQUIREMENTSMust be able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight for customer meetings and site visits up to 20% of the timeCOMPENSATIONThe expected base salary range for this position is $180,000 - $200,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
