MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Position Summary:

Provides managerial direction and support for the Admitting department through the utilization of staff and other resources, and the reviewing of reports. Collaborates with other departments to assure appropriate documentation (releases, consents, and pre-certifications) are obtained. Prepares regular and ad-hoc statistical reports and submits to director. Participates in the departmental quality improvement program.

  • Provides managerial direction and support for the Admitting department (ED, One Call) through the utilization of staff and other resources, and the reviewing of reports.
  • Determines staffing requirements for the Admitting department.
  • Supervises Admitting department employees.
  • Adjusts staffing schedules according to workload and areas
  • Orients new Admitting department employees.
  • Provides initial and ongoing training for all admitting department employees.
  • Provides and documents in-service and departmental meetings on job related functions and duties.
  • Reviews and monitors employees work quality and productivity.
  • Provides feedback to staff on performance using established methods.
  • Responsible for collaborating with HR on hiring, employee discipline and terminations.
  • Monitors registration information to maintain accuracy level at 98% or higher.
  • Participates in the departmental quality improvement program.
  • Establishes or assists in establishing key indicators for productivity and accuracy standards for work processes.
  • Monitors standards and key indicators.
  • Compiles and reports progress on key indicators to employees and manager on regular basis.
  • Manages day to day operations of the Admitting department.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education (Indicate minimum education or degree required.)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Preferred Education (Indicate preferred education or degree required.)

  • Some college and/ certification, medical terminology course, and management courses preferred.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications (Indicate minimum years of job experience, skills or abilities required for the job.)

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.
  • Two (2) years' experience in a hospital, similar medical facility or physician's office.
  • Two (2) years admitting and registration experience.
  • One (1) year charge, supervisory experience.
