Position Summary

This is a part-time position.

Work under Administration to plan and implement haircuts at the SCDC Correctional/YJEC facilities for residents. Provide exceptional grooming services by delivering high-quality haircuts, beard trims, and grooming. This is a part-time position.

Pay Grade: 49

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years' experience as a master barber; AND
  • Graduation from an accredited program.
  • Master Barber License required.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work.
  • Delivers expert haircuts, shaves, and grooming services that meet the diverse needs of residents.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe and sanitary environment by disinfecting workstations and equipment according to industry standards.
  • Consults with residence to understand their grooming preferences and recommend suitable styles.
  • Trains and mentors in foundational techniques and service if required.
  • Keeps updated on the latest barbering trends, techniques, and products to provide innovative services.
  • Ensures all tools are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each use.
  • Tracks inventory and order supplies to ensure the area is well stocked.
  • Keeps detailed log of services provided.
  • Coordinates scheduling/appointments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of organization management and public administration.
  • Ability to deal effectively with executives, Elected Officials and other departments within Shelby County Government.
  • Exceptional Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of departmental objectives and procedures.
  • Skilled in conducting confidential investigations.
  • Thorough ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to devise detailed procedures in methodology for research projects.
  • Ability to devise tables, charts, and graphs to show clear and precise statistical judgment.
  • Ability to be thorough and dependable in performing various job tasks.
