Job Profile Summary

Responsible for laboratory operations in a defined clinical testing discipline of the Core Laboratory. Ensures that laboratory operations run at peak performance by driving optimization of resources, financial performance, growth, safety, teammate engagement, and quality. Maintains strong collaboration and relationships with internal laboratory leaders and business partners to align with corporate strategies, initiatives, processes, and procedures.

Major Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with pathologists and clinical and administrative leadership to ensure laboratory services effectively support clinical and safety initiatives.
  • Direct and oversee efficient operations, acting as a liaison to lab leadership.
  • Maintain competency in all test systems and processes in the defined discipline. Serve as a competency assessor and department subject matter expert.
  • Identify, develop, and implement performance improvement processes to enhance patient satisfaction, teammate engagement, and physician satisfaction.
  • Plan and actively participate in the implementation of standards and systems to enhance quality, consistency, efficiency, and timeliness in areas of responsibility. Foster innovation to support both current and future needs.
  • Ensure all operations and policies comply with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements, including Clinical Laboratories Improvement Act, College of American Pathologists, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies. Develop processes to ensure continual inspection readiness.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication. Collaborate with other leadership to provide excellent customer service.
  • Accountable for the accuracy of test results, efficient operations, proper staffing levels, and resource utilization.
  • Select, coach, and develop the team. Set clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manage performance by recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary. Recommend hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and ensuring that actions comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.
