Job Description

Supervises and coordinates the staff and daily operations and staff. Confers with other clinical health care providers and hospitals regarding the treatment and transport of patients. May participate in community sponsored events to provide EMS services. Performs the duties of an EMT as necessary.

Job Responsibility

  • Promotes Emergency Medical department goals by selecting, motivating, and training capable team members.
  • Leads the activities of assigned Emergency Medical team members by communicating and providing guidance toward achieving department objectives.
  • Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines, and evaluates the performance of staff; ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner.
  • Supervises the day to day operational aspects of staff of operations; records and submits daily supervisory logs.
  • Prioritizes, schedules, assigns and monitors work to optimize operational service.
  • Analyzes, recommends, implements and monitors approved work-flow changes.
  • Assists with evaluating the staffing requirements necessary to support operations.
  • Regularly monitors team member certification expiration dates to ensure compliance.
  • Ensures proper procedures and protocols are followed by all clinical staff; provides for appropriate training as necessary.
  • Assist in quality assurance and performance improvement activities by regularly reviewing patient care reports to ensure accuracy and proper completion.
  • Liaises with other healthcare providers and hospitals and supports community events.

Job Qualification

  • Associates Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Current Emergency Medical Technician Certification in New York State, and Current Basic Life Support Professional Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience and 0-2 years of leadership / management experience, required.
