This position is for an Imagery Acquisition Group Supervisor tasked with managing a team performing still photography and video capture of a variety of flight hardware, engineering tests, personnel, and other subjects and events of importance to NASA’s human space flight effort at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.  Provide management and supervision for six photographers/videographers and reserve teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and schedule imagery acquisition support for the Johnson Space Center's management, scientific community, engineering programs, mission operations, Office of Communication, Orion program, Artemis program, Moonbase program, Low Earth Orbit Program and their international partners, and commercial crew program participants. 
  • Schedule, assign and supervise on average 50-60 jobs a week, 1800 to 2200 jobs a year. Perform quality checks and evaluations on 45,000-60,000 images a year.
  • Develop and manage financial accounting for the department including managing work package budgets, cost estimates, variance analysis, work package revisions, time sheet calculations, procurements and forecasts.
  • Provide development of procedures, processes and work instructions.
  • Track, analyze and report job data and metrics.
  • Oversee training and development of employees.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports on operations, safety, budgets and specialty reports as requested.
  • Provide JSC Multimedia Services representative to JSC Public Affairs Office. Integrate support services between the two organizations. Attend bi-weekly meetings and provide consultation to JSC Public Affairs on image capture strategies, policies, copyright, still media searches and usage. 
  • Develop policies and strategies for staff photographers and videographers on capture of imagery for NASA programs including Artemis, Moon Base, Low Earth Program and international partners (ESA, CSA, JAXA and RSA.)
  • Provide JSC multimedia services and representation to the U.S. Coast Guard Gulf Coast District and Air Station Houston under the NASA/U.S. Coast Guard Resource Exchange Agreement.
  • Work with clients to develop still imagery and video for internal communication efforts, public outreach, technology awareness programs, and education initiatives.

    •     Work with clients to develop still imagery and video for internal communication efforts, public outreach, technology awareness programs, and education initiatives. Manage resources and develop policies for capturing imagery for astronaut portraits, crew training, crew returns, press briefings and major announcements. Coordinate resources and supervise rapid delivery of social media imagery to JSC Public Affairs and stakeholders.
    •     Contributed content to NASA Stylebook and Standards for NASA’s Office of Communications. Develop and manage department budgets, complete purchasing, and subcontract initiatives.
    •     Research and implement new imaging technologies, styles, and processes for image capture.Provide consultation and art direction to customers.
    •     Research new equipment, technology and methods for image capture.  
    •     Work with imaging workstation computers, laptops, Windows Enterprise, Apple Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite, Hasselblad Phocus, Photo Mechanic and other image related software. Be familiar with and have experience with multiple camera systems, primarily Nikon Z9 and D6, Hasselblad H and X systems, Canon XF705, GoPro’s, and aerial drone vehicles. Additional familiarity with Speedotron Black Line lighting systems, Profoto, Nikon Speedlights, Nila LED lights, Lite Panel LED lights, Nanlites and various lighting accessories.

    The position requires overseeing work under various conditions, including in the studio, in engineering labs, outdoors, in confined spaces, high platform locations, in environments requiring respirator protection or air-breathing systems, and near NASA vehicles, helicopters, and other locations.

    This position requires the ability to work in a team environment with engineers, researchers, astronauts, video & photo lab personnel and staff photographers & videographers.  Team responsibilities include assisting photographers, contributing to team projects, directing office duties including project planning, scheduling, equipment maintenance and inventory.

    1.    EDUCATION AND PREVIOUS WORK REQUIREMENTS:Must have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in photography/video or related imaging field from an accredited University or Technical Institute with management experience.  

    2.    EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:Must be a U.S. citizen and have a current valid U.S. passport.  Must be able to pass a National Agency Check (NAC) security clearance.

    Must have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in photography/video or related imaging field from an accredited University or Technical Institute with management experience.  

    Education should include an understanding of supervision techniques, human resources policies, computers for photographic applications, portraiture, creative photography, scientific photography, time lapse.  Knowledge and experience with DSLR and medium format digital cameras, HD and 4K digital video cameras, cinematography techniques, digital video recorders, audio, light meters, color temperature meters, motion control systems, remote control systems, flash lighting systems and LED lights is desired.  

    Must provide a high degree of management, technical & creative capability, artistic vision, and ability to supervise company and non-company personnel in their operations.

    Must be detail oriented, keep accurate reports, data and perform basic mathematical calculations for problem solving.  

    Must communicate in a friendly and professional manner with NASA personnel, follow Government protocol standards, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work well with staff, customers, management and fellow employees at all levels in a team environment.

    Familiarization with working and supervising in a scientific and engineering environment desired. 

    Ability to travel to conferences and meetings in relatively short notice including various NASA field centers in the U.S. and international partner facilities outside the country. 

    Adherence to quality control, safety, operations, administrative and security procedures including reporting will be required.
