Job Description:

 

Production Supervisor

Brookshire, TX

  • 2nd: 3:00pm - 11:00pm

Overview

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the direct oversight, supervision, training, development, and support of our production and material handling employees.  They are also responsible for providing oversight, guidance, support, and indirect supervision for shift maintenance support staff.  The production supervision duties are mostly hands-on and direct in nature and require that substantial time be spent on the plant floor working closely and directly with all shift employees.  The Production Supervisor is responsible for the safety of employees and visitors, the quality of products, efficient utilization of labor, and operation of equipment, technical problem solving, elimination of waste, and continuous improvement

 

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures shift employees are following safe work practices and procedures consistently; completely, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GPM)
  • Audits for compliance and addresses safety issues in a timely manner
  • Understand Union labor agreement and Durobag policies to communicate and enforce effectively
  • Holds shift start-up meeting to communicate shift goals and engage employees
  • Manage Adjuster Supervisors to provide adequate support and training to machine operators
  • Report daily production, runtime and waste records
  • Works safely and is proactively involved in plant safety improvement efforts
  • Conducts safety and job function training for shift personnel
  • Trains employees in proper procedures, coaches them to improve results, and evaluates performance
  • Develop employees to promote career opportunities and succession planning
  • Troubleshoots and resolves process, equipment and material issues in conjunction with machine operators and support personnel
  • Interprets work orders and specifications to shift employees, as necessary
  • Leads and/or assists shift employees in problem resolution
  • Leads or supports efforts to determine root cause and develop corrective actions
  • Studies and understands production schedule and deploys available labor and other resources
  • Spot checks product quality and ensures specifications are being met
  • Recommends measures to improve safety, production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and reduction of waste
  • Suggests changes in procedures, labor utilization, use of equipment, and materials to increase efficiency of plant, shift, department or work cell
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals
  • Double-checks, ensures accuracy, and finalizes production paperwork including production reports, work order documentation, safety and sanitation documents, quality records, finished goods tickets, etc.
  • Maintains employee time clock information and submits to plant Human Resources for payroll processing
  • Coordinates labor needs with plant Human Resources
  • Interprets and enforces company policies, rules and regulations to employees
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with in-coming and off-going shift leaders about issues occurring on previous, current or following shift
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately at the necessary frequency with subordinates, peers and superiors
  • Acts as a change agent and champion for Durobag to implement process improvement
  • Performs activities of employees supervised, as needed
  • Administers disciplinary actions consistently and according to company policy
  • All other projects and duties, as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S. in Industrial Management) not required but preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful production supervision experience preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish-English preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with the willingness and ability to learn new systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision to complete job tasks
  • Resourceful problem solver with proven ability to bring quick resolution to challenging situations
  • Team player with ability to build lasting productive business relationships with hourly employees, management, and peers
  • Ability to effectively communicate information both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, customers or suppliers
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, 12 hours or more and push or carry up to 25lbs
  • Ability to work in warm environments
  • Hearing and vision ability to identify machine mechanics and work in noisy environment

Compensation

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $66,000 - $80,000 + bonus + benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations.  Within the range, individual pay is determined by job related skills, experience and relevant education or training. At Novolex, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
