Job Summary:

Participates in the empowerment of library patrons by implementing education strategies on using standard and specialized library information systems and resources and collaborating to develop information literacy strategies, initiatives, and trainings. Conducts authoritative literature searches using advanced information databases and grey literature, as requested by patrons or for projects. Contributes to the fulfillment and delivery of library information resources by coordinating with physicians, clinicals, and researchers on the delivery of resources for projects. Manages the fostering of resource acquisition and evaluation as part of overall resource management by maintaining thorough knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in library information systems and leading the evaluation of resources. Partakes in a variety of professional activities related to Library Services by participating in library science and health related professional development activities to lead the team. Contributes to overall library operations, through supporting the team, which includes budget allocations, communications, and assisting with compliance. Manages the development and promotion of library resources while representing the library for visibility through the implementation of a variety of strategies.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Recommends developmental opportunities for others; builds collaborative, cross-functional relationships. Solicits and acts on performance feedback; provides team members with feedback; and mentors and coaches to drive performance improvement. Pursues professional growth; provides training and development to talent for growth opportunities; supports execution of performance management guidelines and expectations. Implements, adapts, and stays up to date with organizational change, challenges, feedback, best practices and processes. Fosters open dialogue, supports, mentors, engages, and motivates team members on collaboration. Delegates tasks and decisions as appropriate; provides appropriate support, guidance and scope.
  • Supervises and coordinates daily activities of designated work team or unit by monitoring the execution and completion of tactical action items and work assignments; ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Aligns team efforts and standards, and measures progress in achieving results; determines and carries out processes and methodologies; resolves escalated issues as appropriate. Develops work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; coordinates, obtains and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; identifies and recommends improvement opportunities; influences teams to execute in alignment with operational objectives.
  • Participates in the empowerment of patrons by: helping patrons review author instructions to ensure they are following publication protocols and advising on copyright protocols; implementing education strategies on using standard and specialized library information systems and resources, including online database searches, bibliographic and reference systems, grey literature searches, and educational resources; troubleshooting advanced issues with library information systems and issues with patrons and collaborates with senior team members to identify long-term solutions; documenting and communicating bibliographic and reference best practices and procedures, including citation formatting, reference list curation, or related problems; providing consultation with individual patrons or with project teams on developing advanced information retrieval strategies to conduct research (e.g., systematic reviews, guidelines, and other publications); and collaborating to develop information literacy strategies, initiatives, and trainings for library patrons and librarians.
  • Supporting literature reviews for patrons by: conducting authoritative literature searches using advanced information databases and grey literature, as requested by patrons or projects, and may serve as a consultant to other members of the team; evaluating, synthesizing, and delivering relevant information identified through research to optimize resources for the end patron; utilizing tailored literature alerts to alert users of new articles on specific topics and advising on tools and mechanisms; and joining a team as an embedded member to support literature searches as a consultant.
  • Contributes to ensuring resource requests are fulfilled by: coordinating with physicians, clinicals, and researchers on the delivery of resources for projects; helping interpret licensing agreements to determine what is lendable; and resolving and maintaining order records and tracking receipts of requested information resources sharing through internal, regional, and national library systems while following operating procedures and policies for inter-library loans and fair use.
  • Manages the fostering of resource acquisition and evaluation by: maintaining thorough knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in library information systems, information literacy, health information resources, copyright, medical education, and the role of technology; ensuring the current resource offerings are evidence-based, contemporary and in support of Kaisers mission, and ongoing initiatives and research, and participating in Kaisers services across the company and filling gaps; managing archival journals and other collections and check out of materials; maintaining the online catalog and other library system to ensure proper system administration; identifying opportunities to revitalize and update current collections to ensure they are still current and filling gaps with electronic resources and removal of outdated resources; and leading the evaluation of software, hardware, and databases and recommending improvements and implementation options.
  • Partakes in a variety of professional activities related to Library Services by: participating in library science and health related development activities to lead team; proactively analyzing and evaluating problems while serving on internal committees, projects, peer groups, and professional organizations; and attending external conferences at the local and state level to identify gaps in current resources.
  • Contributing to library operations by: supporting team to ensure supplies, forms, educational resources, and library equipment are operational; working within allocated budget by monitoring usage and ensuring proper use of expenditures and may negotiate with vendors for initial pricing; collaborating on internal communications to leaders regarding contributions to Kaiser initiatives; and assisting with auditing librarys compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Manages the development and promotion of library resources by: developing informational handouts, websites, and newsletters to promote current and upcoming resources, services, and events and implement marketing strategies as directed by the manager/director; and representing the library and organization virtually and/or in person, such as through projects, peer groups, professional associations, projects, internal committees, external conferences, and committees at the local and state level to promote library visibility.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.
  • Minimum one (1) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience using PubMed or related databases.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience conducting grey literature searches.
  • Masters degree in Library or Information Science, Information System, or related field AND minimum five (5) years of experience in medical, health science, academic library, or a directly related field.
