Responsible for the receipt, inventory, inspection, distribution, transportation and storage of all BCPSS school furniture. Arranges for transportation of books and computers to and from schools. Supervises personnel in the receipt, inspection, salvaging, storage, and distribution of school furniture, supplies and equipment.
Essential Functions
- Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises and participates in the receipt, inspection, storage, and distribution of furniture, materials, supplies, and equipment. Meets frequently with administration and management staff to coordinate logistic services.
- Prepares work schedules and monitors daily logistics workflow activities.
- Develops, manages, and monitors the budget for all services under the supervision of the department.
- Develops methods of determining manpower requirements and develops reports and procedures to support same.
- Assists in the planning of a system-wide program for receiving and distributing furniture, supplies and materials.
- Receives and processes requests for materials and supplies (school furniture such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, bookcases, etc.) from warehouse, and vise versa, and assures that items are delivered in an expeditious manner.
- Coordinates with department buyers to ensure requests for furniture are first fulfilled from warehouse inventory before the purchase of new furniture, etc.
- Provides for labor and transportation services for interoffice and intraoffice moves within the school system for non-warehouse items such as computers and books.
- Utilizes storage facilities to the optimum efficiency.
- Supervises the reclamation, recondition, disposal, and recycling of salvaged materials.
- Arranges for the transportation and receipt of acquired surplus and donated property.
- Makes recommendations for new or revised procedures. Interprets established polices and procedures for assigned staff.
- Reviews work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental rules, policies, procedures and standards.
- Makes recommendations for improved and safe work methods and procedures, and supervises their implementation.
- Develops and maintains work standards for subordinate employees.
- Communicates, interprets, and enforces policies, procedures and regulations of BCPSS as they pertain to assigned area of responsibilities.
- Identifies and inventories non-stock supplies, materials, surplus equipment and furniture, and reissues same.
- Manages the selection, evaluation, training and development of subordinate employees.
- Maintains records and prepares reports relative to assigned area of responsibility.
- Conducts physical inventory counts as necessary.
- Anticipates and resolves problems and provides updates to immediate supervisor.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two years' experience in the field of logistics or materials management which must have included supervisory/management responsibility.
- Additional related full-time experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the education requirement.
- Broad based knowledge of supply and demand process.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with all levels of employees, members of senior management and external constituents.
- Excellent organization skills required, with ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple and conflicting interests.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and mediation skills, including the ability to develop and lead a diverse staff.
- Proficiency in the use of technical computer applications including computerized inventory systems, and, but not limited to, MS Office.
- Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
