Reports to: Assistant Superintendent

Location: BP Mission's Integrated Special Education Preschool Center

Accountability: For programmatic matters and instructional alignment, the Supervisor is accountable to the Assistant Superintendent of Student Achievement and Academic Programming.

  • 60% Administrative Assignment: Conducted on a 12-month professional schedule.
  • 40% Teacher Assignment: Conducted on a 10-month academic schedule.

Position Overview

The Supervisor (60/40 Split) is a dual-role leadership position designed to drive student achievement and ensure the delivery of high-quality, equitable special education services at the BP Mission's Integrated Special Education Preschool Center. This leader provides strategic oversight for program compliance while remaining grounded in the classroom environment. As a key member of the district's instructional team, the Supervisor collaborates across departments to promote continuous improvement, drive data-informed decision-making, and ensure alignment with New London Public Schools' district-wide priorities and state requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership: Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-quality PreK curriculum and specialized instructional practices.
  • Personnel Supervision: Supervise, coach, and evaluate teachers and support staff to ensure effective, research-based instructional delivery and professional growth.
  • Talent Acquisition: Lead recruitment and onboarding efforts to identify and retain highly qualified personnel dedicated to the mission of the program.
  • Strategic Coordination: Manage program scheduling and resource allocation in coordination with support staff to optimize student learning environments.
  • Compliance & Excellence: Drive districtwide student achievement by overseeing compliance with federal and state laws (IDEA), managing departmental expectations, and utilizing data to inform school improvement initiatives.
  • Professional Integrity: Serve as an exemplary model of professionalism, communication, and dedication to the profession, fostering a culture of equity and academic excellence.

Minimum Requirements

  • Administrative Certification: Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) Intermediate Administrator and Supervisor Certificate (092).
  • Special Services Endorsement: Must hold a valid CSDE Comprehensive Special Education Certification (Endorsements 061, 265, or 065).
  • Professional Experience: At least five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience with a currently held valid teaching certificate.
  • Core Competencies: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; a strong understanding of research-based strategies in instructional leadership; and a proven ability to serve as a model of integrity.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience with trauma-informed and restorative practices.
  • Strong understanding of instructional technology and data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Experience in innovation and designing new program developments for students in a high-needs environment.
