Job Summary

The Supervisor provides operational, technical, and personnel leadership for three areas of Pediatric Diagnostic Services ? electrocardiogram (ECG) and ambulatory rhythm monitoring, exercise testing and therapy, and remote monitoring of cardiac implanted electronic devices (CIEDs). This position is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards, and supporting the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered diagnostic services. The supervisor serves as a key liaison among faculty, staff, and leadership while maintaining direct clinical responsibilities in the labs. The role also supports quality improvement initiatives, staff development, equipment management, and program growth to meet the needs of pediatric cardiology patients and families, including exercise-based interventions for children with congenital heart disease, telemedicine exercise programming, health-promotion initiatives, and active participation in regional and national research.

Responsibilities*

Leadership and Operations

• Provide day-to-day operational oversight of the Non-Invasive EP and Exercise programs.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and workflows consistent with departmental, institutional, and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate staffing assignments, schedules, and vacation coverage to ensure uninterrupted patient care and efficient operations.
• Serve as a liaison between technical staff, faculty, and administrative leadership.
• Work cohesively with information technology services to assure relevant clinical systems are working appropriately.
• Monitor quality metrics and participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and make recommendations regarding replacement, upgrades, and new technologies.
• Participate in divisional and hospital-wide initiatives, committees, and special projects.

Human Resources and Team Development

• Provide direct supervision and performance management for technical staff, including coaching, annual evaluations, and corrective action when necessary.
• Participate in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and training of new employees.
• Support employee engagement, professional development, and a culture of teamwork and accountability.
• Manage payroll-related activities and approve time away requests in accordance with institutional policies.

Clinical and Technical Responsibilities

• Assure the efficient delivery of ECG services for Mott Hospital and the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic.

• Perform and oversee obtention and processing of ECGs and other non-invasive rhythm monitoring studies.

• Develop and maintain lab protocols and safety procedures in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.

• *Commensurate with training and expertise:

• Perform diagnostic exercise testing utilizing treadmill and bicycle ergometry, metabolic measurements, blood pressure monitoring, and baseline spirometry.

• Coordinate and conduct stress pulmonary function testing and assist with research protocols as needed.

• Provide individualized exercise counseling and education to pediatric cardiology patients and families.

• Support pediatric health promotion and wellness initiatives.

• Oversee the CIED remote monitoring service and work closely with the primary coordinator to assure daily processing device data, report processing, and communication with patients and physicians.

• Maintain accurate documentation, billing records, and laboratory logs.

• Order supplies and ensure appropriate inventory levels.

Required Qualifications*

• Bachelor's degree focused on Health, Exercise Physiology, or related Sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three or more years of experience providing direct patient care in a hospital or clinical setting; including experience in non-invasive electrophysiology, exercise testing, or CIED remote management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of exercise physiology and/or cardiac diagnostic testing.
• Commitment to patient safety principles.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with providers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing clinical demands.
• Certification in BCLS/ACLS obtained within one year of date of hire.

Desired Qualifications*

• Experience working in pediatric cardiology or congenital heart disease populations.

• Supervisory or team leadership experience, including staff management and laboratory operations oversight.

• Certification as a Cardiopulmonary Technician or certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

• Experience with ambulatory monitoring systems, remote pacemaker/ICD monitoring, and cardiac device databases.

• Experience leading quality improvement, process improvement, or regulatory initiatives.

• Demonstrated commitment to staff development, engagement, and fostering a positive team culture.

Work Schedule

The position is full-time. Schedule is 40 hours per week.

Supervision received:

• Technical supervision is received from Administrative Manager/Director(s) and Physician Lab Director(s). Administrative supervision is received from Administrative Manager/Director(s) and Clinical Department Associate.

Supervision exercised:

• Provide technical and administrative supervision of technical staff within the Pediatric EKG, Exercise, and Device Monitoring programs

Physical requirements:

• This position requires extensive standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.
