Position Summary

Ensure the achievement of the unit's safety, production, quality, and continuous improvement goals through adequate planning, organization, coordination, and control of its human, technical, and material resources.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create a work environment in which each employee is respected, feels welcome and safe, and is empowered to perform at their best.
  • Ensure all parts are built according to the manufacturing plan and customer specifications.
  • Ensure employees and team leaders are properly trained and empowered to execute job requirements.
  • Communicate work rules and required standards of conduct.
  • Assess employee performance and initiate coaching and disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Identify, control, and communicate operational risks.
  • Ensure employees are trained to safely perform their jobs.
  • Act as a role model and ensure employees demonstrate safe work behaviors.
  • Initiate and participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure production reports are accurately maintained.
  • Organize and schedule work, including management of breaks, overtime, vacations, and absence coverage to achieve production requirements.
  • Ensure conformance to quality procedures and proper application of quality and process controls.
  • Encourage, support, and communicate improvement ideas from operators and assist with implementation once approved.
  • Collaborate with Continuous Improvement teams by identifying, proposing, and supporting effective solutions.
  • Ensure effective communication between shifts and that regular team meetings occur.
  • Participate in meetings with managers to evaluate performance results and planned actions.
  • Participate in critical parts meetings as needed and conduct daily walkabouts.
  • Participate in or lead safety-related processes, including:
    • Hazard assessments
    • Work instruction development
    • Incident investigations
    • Layered Process Audits (LPA)
    • 6S activities
    • Safety walks
  • Ensure Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) legal and management system requirements for assigned work areas are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required by business needs.

Education and Qualifications

  • Four-year degree, or a two-year degree with progression toward a four-year degree, combined with two to four years of supervisory experience; alternatively, more than three years of practical supervisory or management experience.
  • Ability to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather, interpret, and utilize production information.
  • Computer proficiency, including spreadsheets, charting applications, and word processing/documentation software.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when exchanging information and handling sensitive issues.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.

Work Environment / Work Conditions

  • Professional office environment.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the manufacturing floor.
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations as required.
  • Use of equipment that requires proper training to understand and mitigate potential injury risks.
