Epic Burger is a fast casual smashburger restaurant with nine locations across Chicagoland: Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, South Loop, Evanston, Old Orchard, Northbrook, Lake Bluff, Barrington and Naperville.
Most restaurants hire you to do a job. We hire you to grow. Every person on our crew is a Supervisor from day one, owns a real part of the restaurant, and is on a written plan to move up. When you learn more, you earn more, and the next level is always open to you.
If you want a paycheck and nothing else, this probably is not the right job. If you want to get better at something, be trusted with real responsibility, and build toward a leadership career, keep reading.
There are four levels at Epic Burger, and every one of them is filled from inside first.
You grow by earning certifications. Each Supervisor works toward certification in four Areas of Responsibility: Kitchen Operations, Guest Experience, Food Safety & Sanitation, and Facilities & Equipment. Each certification is a pay increase. So is earning your keyholder certification to open and close the restaurant.
Certifications are earned on shifts, not on the calendar. You are evaluated on the work you actually do, by people trained to evaluate it fairly. Full-time and part-time Supervisors move at the pace of their own development.
Mistakes are OK. That is part of development. Not progressing is the problem. We expect everyone here to be working toward the next level, and we give you the training, a coach and a written plan to get there.
Your first 30 days are planned for you. Your Team Leader trains you one station at a time, pairs you with experienced people before you go solo, and checks in with you along the way. At 30 days you sit down with your Head Coach, choose your first Area of Responsibility and sign your growth plan.
You supervise your Area of Responsibility: on your shifts, the standards in that zone are yours. Once keyholder-certified, you can open and close the restaurant with a Shift Leader or above on during service.
You game-plan and run the shift and make the key calls on employees and guests while you are in charge.
You lead the development of the crew. In practice, you are the strongest voice in the building on how people are trained and coached.
Our salaried multi-unit leaders. Each Head Coach leads two locations, works shifts in both, and owns hiring, scheduling and the development of Team Leaders. This is where the ladder leads.
Restaurant experience helps. It is not required. We can teach the food; we cannot teach caring about it.
You earn an hourly base rate plus a share of the store's pooled tips, split by hours worked. Your base rate goes up with every certification you earn, and again with every promotion. Full-time and part-time positions are available.
