Duties

Help

  • As Chief, Assessment Division, responsible for planning, developing, directing and evaluating an admission classification/rehabilitative planning program for the institution.
  • Develop an intake risk assessment and rehabilitation treatment plan based on the needs of each inmate incarcerated; draft and recommend policies and procedures of the organization level correctional facility programs and activities.
  • Develop and update polices in keeping with existing regulations, management principles, standards and ethics governing social work and correctional mental health conduct.
  • Provide administrative and technical oversight to civilian employees and military service members.
  • Serve as a group therapy facilitator for complex treatment groups of inmates, providing interventions to assist inmates in changing their behaviors, attitudes, and values that contributed to the commission of their criminal acts.
  • Plan, direct and assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
  • Develop performance standards and rate employees.
  • Control attendance and approves/disapproves sick and annual leave.
  • Hear and resolve complaints from employees.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position requires the employee to be on call after normal duty hours.
  • This position requires the employee to undergo screening for tuberculosis upon appointment and an annual re-evaluation.
  • Personnel who enter the Military Correctional Complex consent to inspection of their person and property, including their vehicle, at any time their property or vehicle is within grounds controlled by the Military Correctional Complex.
  • IAW The Prison Rape Elimination Act, the MCC may not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates, has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup community conferment facility, juvenile facility, or other institution (42 USC 1997).
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required and an annual physical thereafter.
  • The incumbent will comply with the strict provisions as established by the ACC policy and local facility/activity policy on staff standards of conduct.
  • This position requires the employee to complete the ACC Pre-Service Training upon employment and complete a minimum of 40 hours of training annually thereafter.
  • Confinement facility personnel shall possess a high degree of maturity and emotional stability; and have no civilian felony convictions or court-martial convictions for any offense with a maximum authorized sentence to confinement of over one year.
  • Work requires indirect contact in the detention of inmates convicted of offenses against the the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Requires the first line supervision of law enforcement officer positions classified as primary/rigorous.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, active, valid, unrestricted, Clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education, experience and licensing requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Social Worker: Degree: Masters degree (or higher degree) in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: (Application packages without a transcript will be determined incomplete.)

Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.Collecting bio-psycho-social information about behavioral health patients using interview, case history, and observation techniques; 2. Analyzing information collected to determine psychiatric diagnosis and formulating treatment plans; and 3. Providing counseling and treatment plans to modify deviant behaviors and treat emotional problems and adjustment difficulties.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12) or equivalent.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

ORGANIZATION

The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world. The institutional Army supports the operational Army. Institutional organizations provide the infrastructure necessary to raise, train, equip, deploy, and ensure the readiness of all Army forces. The training base provides military skills and professional education to every Soldier—as well as members of sister services and allied forces.
