  • Direct and control the operations and personnel of the commissary front end customer service department.
  • Monitor and supervise all register transactions.
  • Modify schedules based on personnel capabilities, planned and emergency leave schedules, and position vacancies.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates.
  • Identify training needs and work to ensure the needs are met.
  • Respond to customer questions and issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Complete, review and file a variety of forms and reports which account for daily operations which serve as control records for the receipt and deposit of all transactions - electronic or cash.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of front end area and operations to ensure compliance with local safety, fire, security, and sanitation regulations and procedures.

  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Work involves frequent lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying of commissary products weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance; heavier items are moved with assistance from other workers or by using weight-handling equipment.
  • Work also involves prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and/or climbing.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance eligibility based on appropriate background investigation.
  • May be required to travel by regularly scheduled military or commercial transportation in the performance of temporary duty assignments.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level to include experience; Leading and training other employees as a regular assignment; Planning work for employees; Performing warehouse inventory; Assisting Store Associates; And providing instructions on administrative matters.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
