CTL Student Learning Assistance (SLA) is a program available to UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes. Our mission is to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners. The Supplemental Instruction Leader position below is a member of the Supplemental Instruction program and provides direct student support within SLA.
Supplemental Instruction Leader Job Description
Supplemental Instruction Leaders (SIL) work closely with CTL staff to support the programming and tutoring services offered to UNM students. SILs must have proven success in the course they support (B+ or better) or have a strong recommendation from faculty within that subject. In collaboration with the Student Success Supervisor, Assistant Coordinator and Student Manager, a SI Leader performs the following responsibilities:
Plan and instruct weekly small-group tutoring sessions using instructional design methodologies tailored to help students improve metacognitive abilities.
Participate in weekly professional development trainings designed to assist tutors in becoming effective facilitators of student learning.
Attend class for an assigned course section and work collaboratively with the faculty to encourage student participation and engagement.
Assess student needs and make appropriate referrals to other CTL services and services throughout the university.
Serves as a liaison between academic departments and CTL SI services.
Performs administrative responsibilities per CTL and UNM policy.
Requirements for Consideration
Enrollment in a minimum of 6 credit hours at the University of New Mexico in a degree seeking program.
12-15 hour work week availability.
Attendance at pre-semester trainings (week before classes begin).
Attendance at weekly Friday trainings (3:00pm-4:30pm).
Flexible schedule for occasional evening shifts.
Minimum 3.0 GPA.
