Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. The job involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. The goal: delivering on time quantities of high-quality component parts into Tesla's production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches.

  • Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with Supply Chain Managers (SCM) to select appropriate suppliers by conducting detailed assessments of their manufacturing capabilities thru audits and/or benchmarking
  • Design & Materials DFM: Evaluate and understand material qualification requirements, design requirements, and manufacturing requirements to ensure the selection of raw materials meets all needs appropriately
  • Process Development: Guide suppliers in developing robust processes and implementing controls to guarantee production efficiency of metallic raw materials with less waste involved to promote cost optimization
  • Quality Systems Implementation: Develop, implement, validate, and monitor quality systems at the suppliers to ensure products and processes meet or exceed Tesla requirements
  • Production Launch Readiness: Drive production launch readiness and line qualification using Tesla's Qualification Process (TQP), ensuring Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and quality targets are met during production
  • Materials and Process Optimization: Provide inputs on new and alternative materials or processing methods for improved design, manufacturability and cost reductions
  • Problem Solving: Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers
  • Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience with evidence of exceptional abilities
  • Experience: 5+ years in the manufacturing of raw metallic materials or semi-finished and/or finished products (e.g., steelmaking process, aluminum rolled products, stampings, castings, extrusion, machining…)
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in performing drawing reviews, GD&T (tolerance stack-ups), metrology, statistical data analysis ISPC, DOE, sampling plans), and basic CAD skills
  • Communication: Strong technical writing ability and the capacity to explain complex issues concisely. Ability to direct supplier activities at the management level
  • Project Management: Ability to define and execute a project using project management techniques
  • Collaboration: Excellent team building skills in dealing with peers, suppliers and other stakeholders from functional areas
  • Travel: Local and International with an average of 30-40% travel, possibly on short notice
