Supplier Quality Engineer

SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER - BLUFFTON, INDIANA

A Leading Automotive Supplier in the Bluffton, Indiana area needs a 1st Shift Supplier Quality Engineer. This is a Full Time, Permanent, Direct Hire Position offering Competitive Compensation, Bonus Potential, Good Benefits, Paid Holidays and Paid Vacation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for ensuring purchased materials, components, and outsourced services meet company quality, cost, and delivery requirements. Works cross-functionally with procurement, engineering, operations, and suppliers to prevent quality issues, resolve supplier-related nonconformances, drive continuous improvement, and support new product introductions.

• Evaluate, qualify, and monitor suppliers: supplier selection, audits, capability assessments, PPAP / First Article Inspection, and ongoing performance reviews.
• Establish and maintain supplier quality requirements, specifications, and agreements (QMS, Drawings, Test Methods).
• Manage supplier nonconformances: issue containment, root cause analysis (e.g., 8-D), corrective action plans, verification, and closure.
• Support incoming inspection strategy and sampling plans; recommend inspection reduction when supplier capability is demonstrated.
• Drive continuous improvement with suppliers (cost, yield, scrap reduction, lead-time) using Lean Six Sigma tools.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI): supplier readiness, control plans, FMEA inputs, production part approvals, and launch support.
• Monitor supplier performance metrics (PPM, OTIF, corrective action timeliness) and report trends to stakeholders.
• Collaborate on corrective/preventive actions for field failures and warranty issues, coordinate supplier financial responsibility when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate supplier quality documentation and records for regulatory and internal audit readiness.

• Train and coach suppliers on quality systems, measurement techniques, and problem-solving methods.

   

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial) or related technical field.
• 3+ years of supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or supplier engineering experience.
• Practical knowledge of quality systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949 if automotive), PPAP, APQP, FMEA, SPC, MSA.
• Experience with root cause analysis tools (8D, 5-Why) and corrective action implementation.
• Proficiency with measurement instruments and interpretation of inspection data.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; ability to influence suppliers and cross-functional teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP/QMS systems and statistical software preferred.
