The Carver College of Medicine (CCOM) is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Supply Chain Associate to support The University of Iowa's research enterprise through the operation of the Biomedical Research Store. This position is responsible for the distribution and maintenance of inventory of molecular biology and tissue culture products to meet the research demands of CCOM investigators. Additional responsibilities include administering and maintaining inventory databases and monthly billing systems while ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, Board of Regents and University policies and procedures, and the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Primary Duties

Procure and deliver goods and services

  • Evaluate, procure, receive, store, and deliver goods and services.
  • Initiate requisitions to procure goods and services at the direction of others.
  • Dispense enzymes and molecular biology products in the Biomedical Research Store.

Research Products, Prepare Product/ Equipment Specifications, and Contract Management

  • Obtain and verify information regarding sourcing and acquisition options at the request of others.
  • Review contracts for accurate pricing and apply terms and conditions.

Inventory Management and Marketing

  • Receive, properly store and distribute product. Address inventory issues related to the supply chain and suggest models for improvement.
  • Maintain and secure inventory and report issues as needed.
  • Responsible for implementation of marketing strategy or plan.
  • Maintain inventory levels based on customer demand for products and secure necessary supplies, equipment, and compounds to assure that demands can be met.

Vendor and Customer Relations

  • Interact with vendors/suppliers to assure the appropriate goods or services are being procured effectively and efficiently.
  • Interact with internal and external customers, answer questions about orders and shipments.
  • Reconcile discrepancies and address customer concerns.

Data Management or Data Systems Development

  • Maintain inventory/equipment database(s).
  • Operate computer program to track inventory and monthly billing charges. Inventory will consist of database for over 800 molecular biology reagents.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Monitor the budget and assist with managing the budget within defined parameters.
  • Advise management on budgetary needs or discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly billing statements for the Carver College of Medicine office for the dispensing of molecular biology and tissue culture products to over 300 College of Medicine investigators.
  • Produce monthly individualized account statements and billing records for active accounts and distribute them to individual facility users.
  • Assist in preparing the facility operating budget and provide periodic reports to the director of the facility.

Leadership/Supervision

  • May provide functional and/or administrative supervision of staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with the public.

  • Proficient in computer software applications including prior experience working with databases.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks, maintain attention to detail, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in store operations that include record keeping for inventory management.

  • Administrative experience is desirable.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft.

  • Laboratory experience is desirable.

  • Knowledge of molecular biology technology.
