Opportunity Overview

We are looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team at our Universal Robots manufacturing site in Wixom, MI. This role is the key quality interface between suppliers - including global suppliers across our commodity base - and internal teams, protecting production stability, product quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction across plastics, PCBs, machined metal parts, electronics, and other robotics components.

Key Responsibilities

Supplier Quality Performance

• Own quality performance for assigned suppliers and commodities, including global supplier locations
• Track DPPM, NCRs, audit findings, and corrective action status
• Identify trends, risks, and repeat issues; drive supplier improvement actions

Line Support & Supplier Part Issues

• Support Production when supplier parts cause line incidents, stops, or defects
• Drive containment, replacement material, and supplier follow-up as needed
• Communicate impact, affected parts, stock status, actions, owners, and timing

Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions

• Lead RCA for supplier-caused line incidents, non-conformances, and field feedback
• Use 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa, DMAIC, and data analysis to verify true root cause
• Ensure corrective and preventive actions are documented, effective, and prevent recurrence

Supplier Audits & Development

• Conduct supplier audits based on performance and risk, including support for ISO 9001 and TÜV audit readiness
• Assess compliance to drawings, specifications, and quality standards
• Drive supplier development and Quality at Source practices to reduce reliance on incoming inspection

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work with Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Warehouse, and Service, as well as global suppliers and, where applicable, international sites
• Prepare clear quality updates based on data - facts, risks, actions, owners, and timing
• Communicate effectively across time zones, functions, and cultures to align on quality priorities and corrective actions

All About You

You are a supplier quality professional who can own quality performance across a diverse, global commodity base - plastics, PCBs, machined parts, electronics, and other robotics components - rather than a single material, process, or region. You read drawings, specifications, and tolerances fluently and adapt your audit and qualification approach to whatever part type or supplier location is in front of you.

You bring high technical competence in part development, qualification, and supplier manufacturing processes across these commodities. You have a strong supplier accountability mindset - you hold suppliers responsible for corrective action and sustained improvement, and you drive supplier actions to closure with urgency, clear ownership, and verified effectiveness. You apply structured, data-driven root cause analysis to supplier-caused line issues, and you communicate technical impact, risk, actions, owners, and timing clearly to cross-functional stakeholders and global supplier partners alike.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field
• 5+ years of experience in supplier quality, production quality, or component qualification across a mix of commodities (plastics/injection molding, machined metal, electronics/PCBs, or electro-mechanical components)
• Strong technical knowledge of part materials and processes relevant to the commodity mix - plastics and injection molding, machining and tooling, PCB fabrication/assembly, and electro-mechanical assembly - along with process validation, dimensional control, and part qualification
• Experience with supplier audits, containment, line issue handling, RCA, corrective actions, and supplier development
• Experience working with global/international suppliers preferred
• Strong ability to read drawings, specifications, tolerances, material requirements, and quality standards
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and TÜV audit requirements, with the ability to support supplier compliance and readiness for both; equivalent hands-on audit experience also considered
• Knowledge of 8D, FMEA, SPC, MSA, Control Plans, DMAIC, 5 Why, and Ishikawa
• Strong data analysis, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and global suppliers
• Ability to travel up to 10%, domestic and international, to support supplier audits and development

Compensation:

The base salary range for this role is $110,230 - $141,000. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.

Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
