Electronics Technician I
This role involves skilled technical work focused on the repair, maintenance, and calibration of standard and custom electronic devices, subsystems, and small-scale electronic systems. The position may serve as a department-wide resource for electronic maintenance or operate independently under the general supervision of a senior electronics technician. Work includes diagnosing complex issues within interconnected electronic components, performing preventive maintenance, and implementing repairs or modifications to ensure reliable performance. Technical documentation may range from fully detailed to limited or unavailable, requiring strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities. Work quality is assessed based on system reliability and the effectiveness of repairs and circuit modifications.
Key duties include:
- Install, maintain, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electronic devices, subsystems, and integrated systems, including those composed of multiple interconnected components.
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure reliability, reduce system downtime, and extend equipment service life.
- Interpret and work with schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals, including instances where documentation is incomplete or unavailable.
- Modify or design circuitry to improve system performance, support specialized functions, or integrate standalone devices into larger system architectures.
- Evaluate repair outcomes and circuit modifications to ensure proper functionality, reliability, and compliance with technical requirements.
- Perform installation, maintenance, testing, and repair work in at least three of the following system areas:
- Life Safety Systems
- Network-based and integrated Class "A" fire alarm systems
- PLC-based detention control systems
- Perimeter detection systems
- Network and telephone structured cabling
- Network-based CCTV systems
- Low-voltage wiring associated with Building Management Systems
Salary Range - $41,406 - $72,113
Salary Grade NC 09
Please Note: This job requires heavy physical work. You must be able to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs continuously. Work may take place outdoors in all weather conditions.
