Job Description

As a Machine Room Support Specialist at the Utah Data Center, you will be part of a team responsible for well over 100k square feet of IT Equipment Space (ITES). You will assist in maintaining full control of those rooms, including access lists, safety conditions, security practices and more, all in accordance with NSA/CSS Data Center Policies.

You will review and approve machine room access requests daily, ensuring strict compliance with Agency ITES policies and procedures. You will audit ITES access logs for anomalies, in addition to supporting activities that may have resulted as an after-hours service request. You will conduct daily inspections and monitor room cleanliness, safety, and security. You will provide direct support for capability deployments into ITES you are responsible for. You will have responsibility to review and approve power, space, and cooling permits and contribute to planning activities for future capability deployments.

Perform tasks associated with the activities (i.e., access control, space assignment) of specific machine rooms in accordance with Agency policy and documented standards. Update access lists and rosters and control entry within the room or rooms. Perform routine checks of work performed and report maintenance problems. Conduct room inspections and monitor room cleanliness.

Support Specialists work in a myriad of offices. The responsibilities of a Support Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Track/manage highly sensitive security processes
  • Prepare accurate and complete reports that document processes, outcomes, and findings
  • Provide basic security analysis and risk recommendations to decision makers and customersThe ideal candidate has a desire for continual learning with excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills as well as:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work as an individual and in a team environment
  • Well-organized and able to handle multiple assignments
  • Focused on customer needs
  • Knowledge of basic office tools and functions
  • Experience using Microsoft Products (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.

Perform tasks that involve repetitive motions of the fingers, hands, arms, feet, legs, or other body parts.

Note: The agency is currently hiring Support Specialists to Specialize in: Machine Room SupportThe qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position:

ENTRY/DEVELOPMENTAL Entry is with a high school diploma or GED and no experience

Degree in any field is acceptable. Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following: administrative, technical, customer service, security, or testing administration areas.

FULL PERFORMANCE Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 4 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience.

SENIOR Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 6 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience.Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position.

Salary Range: $35,749 - $116,362 (Entry/Developmental, Full Performance, Senior)

Salary range varies by location, work level, and relevant experience to the position.

Training will be provided based on the selectee's needs and experience.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday, with a basic 8hr/day work requirement between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m, depending on the core operating hours of the hiring organization.

DCIPS Trial Period: If selected for this position, you will be required to serve a two-year DCIPS trial period, unless you are a veterans' preference-eligible employee, in which case you are required to serve a one-year trial period. This trial period runs concurrently with your commitment to the position, if applicable. Before finalizing your appointment at the conclusion of your trial period, NSA will determine whether your continued employment advances the public interest. This decision will be based on factors such as your performance and conduct; the Agency's needs and interests; whether your continued employment would advance the Agency's organizational goals; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

Upon completion of your trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

If you do not receive certification for continued employment, you should receive written notice prior to the end of your trial period that your employment will be terminated and the effective date of such termination.
