Job Title: Surg Tech
Location: Burlington, WI
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 0645-1515


Will take call at Lakeland Hospital and work at Southern Lakes in addition to Lakeland and potential of working at Burlington Hospital but primarily it is Lakeland and Southern Lakes they will work out of.


  • About Facility

    • 123 bed facility

    • Trauma level III

    • No NICU level

    • Primary Stroke Center

    • 252 McHenry St, Burlington, WI 53105

    • Covid vaccine required



  • General Information

    • Beds: 3 ORs

    • Experience- 2 years

    • First-time traveler- Yes



  • Patient Types:

    • Inpatient, outpatient, ER

    • General, GYN, ENT, Urology, Ortho, Podiatry, Vascular

    • Pediatrics are seen with ENT; peds are usually done once per week (5-10% of case load); experience with peds preferred



  • Required Certifications:

    • RN: ACLS, BLS

    • CST: BLS, CST



  • Skills required

    • RN: must be able to circulate, able to make critical, independent decisions, able to collaborate with others, multi-tasking, able to recognize situational changes that require unanticipated interventions.

    • CST: knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques, knowledge of various types of surgical equipment



  • Support on the Unit:

    • Charge Nurse does not take assignment

    • Surgeon there during the day/on call after cases are through

    • Anesthesia there for cases/on call after cases

    • Surgery scheduler during the day

    • OR aid works as secretary



  • Charting System/Equipment:

    • EPIC required

    • Pyxis

    • Alaris



  • Floating:

    • Will Float to 2 other sites:

      • Southern Lakes

      • Lakeland

      • Will get a schedule every week to show where they will float to that week



    • Orientation:

      • 1-3 shift based on comfort



    • Scheduling:

      • Can we approve time off- Go through manager

      • Holidays: 1 Summer, 1 Winter

      • On Call RN & CST

        • Every 6 th weekend, Friday afternoon-Monday morning

        • 1 night a week

        • Response time is 30 minutes
