    Legal Entity Aultman Medical Group Inc Position Summary The Surgery Scheduler provides patient-focused service related to each patient encounter. The Surgery Scheduler has patient-focused tasks include greeting patients, scheduling office appointments, validating information, and the collection of copayments. Schedules patients for procedures and surgery and advises patients of surgical and financial, prior authorizations and preoperative requirements, Coordinates and schedules appointments for surgeries and procedures at the clinic, ambulatory surgery center or hospital. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Front Desk experience. Department Qualifications Experience preferred 2-3 years with Prior Authorizations and Surgery Scheduling. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices. Knowledge of computer programs and applications. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type, review and edit reports, documentation, and correspondence. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures, and make changes accurately. Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding. Skills Detail oriented. Communicate effectively. Adaptability to changing work environment or needs. Review financial and clinical paperwork to assure completion before the scheduled procedure or surgery date. Operating office equipment. Handling paperwork/filing adequately. Handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately. Written and verbal communication. Gathering, interpreting, and reporting insurance information. Trouble-shooting insurance issues and resolving appropriately. Responsibilities Expectations Check patients in by verifying patient demographics information. Confirmation of and updating insurance information. Verifies referral approval, documents date of appointment on referral. Collects and copayments, deductibles and past due balances. Schedules appointments. Scanning and indexing all medical records. Maintains work area and lobby in neat and orderly manner. Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information. Coordinate processes and timing as required to meet physician and facility requirements. Coordinate arrangements for surgical assistants, special equipment, and surgical materials. Obtain authorization for surgery and/or testing from patients insurance company. Provide patient with preoperative information sheets and advise patients of preoperative surgical and financial requirements. Submit patient clinical and financial information to facility assuring appropriate medical records release, if needed. Review financial and clinical paperwork to assure completion before the scheduled procedure or surgery date. Working Conditions Work eight hours a day with no weekends. Work performed in office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff and patients. May require working under stressful conditions. Hazardous Exposure Category Category III - Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and Category I tasks are not a condition of employment. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood; body fluids or tissues (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone anywhere might encounter potential exposure to body fluids.) Persons who perform these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
