Location: Columbus, OH 43213
Pay Rate: $19.00-$22.00 per hour (pay is dependent on experience)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week



Rotating Weekly Shifts

  • 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM - Opener
  • 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM - Closer


About the Role

We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Surgery Scheduler to join our team in Columbus, OH. This position will coordinate outpatient ophthalmic surgical procedures and serve as an important point of contact for patients, physicians, and surgical center staff. The ideal candidate will have prior surgery scheduling experience, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule outpatient ophthalmic surgical procedures, including cataract surgeries, IOL implants, glaucoma procedures, and other ophthalmic surgeries.
  • Maintain and update the surgery center master schedule to ensure procedures are scheduled accurately and efficiently.
  • Guide patients through pre-operative instructions, procedure timelines, transportation requirements, and post-operative care expectations.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and obtain required prior authorizations.
  • Calculate patient co-pays, deductibles, and other financial responsibilities prior to surgery.
  • Resolve insurance, authorization, and billing clearance issues before scheduled procedures.
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists, anesthesiologists, surgical nurses, and clinic staff to coordinate operating room time.
  • Coordinate necessary surgical equipment and lens inventory to ensure all required supplies are available.
  • Prepare complete patient charts prior to surgery, including diagnostic scans, physician notes, history and physicals (H&Ps), and signed consent forms.
  • Answer incoming scheduling calls and respond to patient questions in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Adjust surgical schedules as needed when unexpected operating room changes occur.
  • Track surgical volume and maintain accurate scheduling-related metrics and documentation.
  • Support additional administrative and scheduling duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of surgery scheduling experience required.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new scheduling and electronic medical record systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage changing priorities.
  • Professional, dependable, and patient-focused approach.
