Schedule: Full-Time, Days
 
Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the R.N. and ultimately to the Nurse Director, performs the receptionist and secretarial duties on a patient care unit while functioning as the focal communications source in the nursing station.  Performs activities which support the smooth operation of a patient care unit in accordance with the philosophy and mission of the Nursing Department and the hospital.
 
Duties:
  • Assists in the coordination and communication of activities involved in the scheduling of cases in the OR Department
  • Schedules add on cases (call Anesthesia, Float Circulator, Recovery, Amb Care)
  • Call Administrative Supervisor, if add on is ER patient being admitted, for a room
  • Schedule outpatient PICC lines
  • Schedule weekend/holiday infusions and injections
  • Schedule cases in the Depot
  • Schedule PAT phone calls
  • Schedule cases from printer, fax, email and phone calls
  • Deliver next day Pick Sheets
  • Pick up the Pick Sheets and Implant forms from day before from Recovery Room
  • Take On Call sheet to Switchboard
  • Hang On Call sheet for Administrative Supervisor
  • Let OR crew and Ambulatory Care know of cancellations
  • Pick up charts from Ambulatory Care and take to be sent out to Medical Records
  • Pick up Endo reports at the end of the week and take to Doctors Lounge
  • Update weekly tracking sheet
  • Run SSI reports quarterly and send to surgeons
  • Mail out lens implant tracking cards
  • Fax/Email Allograft tracking sheets
  • Prepare on call sheets for the next week
  • Prepare on call calendar for the next month
  • Answer phone calls (check voicemail)
  • Respond to emails
  • Post charges
  • Place tickets for OR equipment repairs
  • Run daily surgery schedule
  • Create documents and reports as needed
  • Other projects as needed
 
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Secondary education in medical assistant or secretarial skills preferred
  • One year hospital experience desirable
  • BLS certification required within six months of hire
  • Quality communication skills
Physical Requirements: 
  • Work is medium to heavy demand
  • Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking on duty
  • Lifting and pushing are required when working with patients and moving carts, wheelchairs, stretchers and other types of equipment
  • Handling, reaching and manual dexterity are required when distributing supplies and equipment
OSHA Exposure Classification: 
  • Risk of exposure to communicable diseases
