Job Summary:

Grand Strand Medical Center is seeking a skilled and dedicated Advanced Care Practitioner to join our Acute Care Surgical Service Line. This position involves providing high-level care in various critical environments, including the Trauma Floor, Trauma Resuscitation Bays, Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), and in the management of Emergency General Surgery. The role requires a collaborative approach to patient management, working alongside a dynamic team of healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide advanced care to patients in acute surgical settings, including Trauma Floor, Trauma Resuscitation Unit, SICU, and Emergency General Surgery.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, and manage acute and complex patients.
- Perform essential procedures such as central line insertions, chest tube placements, arterial line insertion, and bronchoscopies.
- Collaborate with attending surgeons, residents, nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members to provide optimal patient care.
- Participate in trauma resuscitation and emergency interventions as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and competencies in acute care and trauma protocols.
- Document patient progress notes, order appropriate diagnostic tests, and interpret results to aid in treatment planning.
- Participate in patient and family education, ensuring clear communication and support throughout the care process.
- Engage in continuous professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Willingness to serve in a teaching capacity to PA and NP Advance Care Provider students rotating from local universities
- Training advanced care practitioners in assisting robotic surgeries to ensure proficiency; detailed understanding of responsibility lesion robotic procedures, such as assisting with patient positioning, docking and undocking the robot, and instrument exchange; importance of team working communication to ensure patient safety

Qualifications:

- Active and unrestricted Advanced Practice Provider license (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the applicable state.
- Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), with a commitment to maintaining current certification (may be obtained after beginning employment).
- Proven experience and clinical competence in acute care surgery, trauma, or critical care settings is preferred.
- Proficiency in performing advanced medical procedures such as central line insertions, chest tube placements, arterial line insertion, and bronchoscopies, or willingness to undergo hospital-provided competency training.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work seamlessly within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous quality improvement.

About GSMC Trauma Center:
  • Home to one of six Level I adult trauma centers in South Carolina and the only Level II pediatric trauma center in Horry and Georgetown Counties; 24/7 in-house coverage for Trauma and all emergency surgery for our facility
  • Acute Care Surgery team provides the full range of care to patients who are critically ill with acute surgical emergencies, shock, severe sepsis, respiratory failure, and advanced multi-organ failure, in addition to providing the critical care coverage for our Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit
  • Provide the full range of patient care services for both adult and pediatric trauma patients
  • Trauma surgeons treated over 3,600 injured patients in 2020.
  • Currently in active development is the initiative to have all of our ACS surgeons trained in robotic surgery
  • Three dedicated trauma rooms with a helipad adjacent to the emergency department and one dedicated Trauma operating room
  • Currently have six critical care surgeons and seven advanced practice providers
  • We also have the privilege of training general surgery residents and participating in trauma research and outreach.
