For over a 100 years, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has been dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing care and comfort for companion animals in need. We’re currently seeking full-time experienced Surgery Vet Technician for our Pinellas Clinic, opening September 1st!
Holds or restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation.
Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animal, under supervision of Veterinarian.
Prepares patient, medications, and equipment for surgery.
Performs routine laboratory tests.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Provides nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
Ability to place intravenous catheter in cephalic or saphenous vein.
Performs TPR; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
Able to set up intravenous fluids.
Administers subcutaneous fluids.
Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
Preparation of animals for anesthesia and surgery, including placement of IV catheters and monitoring anesthesia.
Perform venipuncture (taking blood samples) from animals
Assist the veterinarian with restraining patients for pre-op exams when needed.
Run a variety of lab tests and taking digital x-rays
Other duties assigned by management.
MUST HAVE SURGERY EXPERIENCE AS A VET TECH TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION. Only candidates with the required experience will be considered for this position.
$23.00 starting rate
$25.00 starting rate for CVT's (Certified Vet Techs)
$2,500 SIGN ON BONUS
