  • Iowa City, IA

    Job Description

    What a day looks like

You start your morning in a fully outfitted mobile repair truck, head to a hospital or regional lab, and turn that vehicle into a precision workshop. You inspect surgical instruments, diagnose wear, and restore performance through ultrasonic cleaning, buffing and polishing, bending and shaping, sharpening, adjusting hinge points and serrations, and light brazing. Throughout the day, you collaborate with sterile processing teams and OR staff to deliver fast, compliant repairs that keep cases on schedule.

Between jobs, you document invoices and work orders, complete required Customer and regulatory reporting, and close each day with end-of-day activities such as the OAR. When needed, you perform Preventive Maintenance Inspections within your training and capability to keep tools performing at their best.

    Where you work

This is a field-based role operating primarily from a mobile repair truck at Customer sites. In denser markets, you may also work from regional labs. Expect frequent trips into hospitals from the truck to pick up and return instrument sets.

    Travel and logistics

    • Daily driving in a company vehicle within your assigned territory
    • Occasional overnight travel as business needs arise
    Background Check Notice:
If offered this position, STERIS will run a 7 year driving record check, as part of our onboarding process.

    Safety and compliance

    • Operate the on-location repair truck in accordance with DOT, company, and Customer protocols
    • Follow all vehicle and equipment safety procedures
    • Use required PPE and complete safety observations as specified by each site
    • Deliver work that meets applicable compliance and quality standards

    Your toolkit

    • Soldering and light brazing skills
    • Automotive repair aptitude helpful for truck/equipment upkeep
    • Grinding, buffing, and polishing proficiency
    • Hands-on experience with surgical instruments and their restoration
    • Background as a repair technician or similar craft trade

    Impact across the territory

Beyond your primary route, you may support other locations within the assigned territory based on service agreements, Customer demand, and staffing levels—wherever your expertise is needed most.
