Unit School Of Medicine MBU Department Surgery Mission or goal of unit

The mission of the VCU Division of Surgical Oncology is to both provide the Mid-Atlantics most advanced patient-oriented cost-effective and safe Surgical Oncology Services as well as to create the finest training environment for the regions future Surgical Oncology Specialists.

Chief Purpose of This Position in Support of About Mission or Goal

This position is open rank an early- to mid-career collateral non-tenure track faculty position in the VCU Surgical Oncology Division. The faculty member should have clinical and research interests that complement and expand on existing expertise in the Division. Clinical and research areas of particular interest should primarily be in the treatment of benign and malignant endocrine diseases. The faculty member should also support the current Divisions expanding efforts to provide excellent oncology surgical support to many of our current regional outreach programs including Massey Cancer Center. Finally, the faculty member should support the Divisions commitment to teaching Surgery Residents and Fellows as well as VCU Medical Students.

As part of the Massey Cancer Center an NCI-designated cancer center our division offers access to cutting-edge research multidisciplinary collaboration and a diverse patient population. The successful candidate will contribute to a thriving surgical oncology program known for its innovation outreach and commitment to excellence in education and clinical care.

Responsibilities

Teaching

The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in Surgical Oncology with an emphasis on Endocrine Surgery.

Research

The faculty member will participate in clinical and/or basic science research relevant to the expanding field of Endocrine Surgery. Research in the field of translational oncology immunotherapy targeted therapy or cancer genomics would be preferred. A record of publication in refereed journals or presentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty member is expected to develop interdisciplinary collaborations within VCUs Massey Cancer Center Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology to achieve these goals.

Service

The faculty member will serve on University Health System and Departmental committees as requested by leadership. They will assist with the recruitment training and placement of Residents and Fellows among the varied specialties outlines above.

Clinical

The faculty members clinical responsibility will be a full-time endocrine clinical practice including outreach clinics and bringing novel techniques to benefit patients. Additionally, the faculty members responsibility will be in the care of the Oncology Surgical patients on the MCV campus of VCU as well as community outreach satellite locations. They will be responsible for the development of an active endocrine surgical practice with the support of the Division and Departments leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery.

Advanced training fellowship in Endocrine Surgery or Surgical Oncology with extensive training in Endocrine Surgery.

Commitment to Outcomes Clinical and/or Basic Science Research.

Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from all backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
