Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the VCU Division of SurgicalOncology is to both provide the Mid-Atlantic’s most advanced, patient-oriented,cost-effective and safe Surgical Oncology Services, as well as to create thefinest training environment for the region’s future Surgical OncologySpecialists.   

Chief Purpose of this position: This position is open rank, an early- to mid-careercollateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the VCU Surgical OncologyDivision. The faculty member provides clinical care to surgical oncology patients with a primary focus on benign and malignant breast diseases.  They will also be expected to support the current Division’s expanding efforts to provide excellent oncology surgical support to many of our current regional outreach programs, including Massey Cancer Center.  The faculty member should have clinical and research interests thatcomplement and expand on existing expertise in the Division. Clinical and research areas of particularinterest should be in the treatment of benign and malignant breast diseases.  Finally, the facultymember should support the Division’s commitment to teaching Surgery Residentsand, Fellows as well as VCU Medical Students.  

Position Responsibilities 

1. Clinical - The faculty member will provide clinical care in Surgical Oncology in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.

2. Teaching - The faculty member will haveteaching responsibilities in Surgical Oncology with an emphasis on BreastSurgery.

3. Research -  The faculty member must participate in clinical or basicscience research relevant to the expanding field of Surgical Oncology. Research in the field of cancer disparities, translationaloncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or cancer genomics would bepreferred. A record of publication inrefereed journals or presentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty member is expected to developinterdisciplinary collaborations within VCU’s Massey Cancer Center, Medical Oncologyand Radiation Oncology to achieve these goals. 

4. Service - The faculty member will serve onUniversity, Health System, and Departmental committees as requested byleadership. They will assist with therecruitment, training, and placement of Residents and Fellows among the variedspecialties outlines above. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Eligible to obtain license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery
  • Advanced training fellowship in Surgical Oncology or Breast Surgery
  • Commitment to Outcomes, Clinical and/or Basic Science Research
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

  • Record of external funding or proposal submissions to obtain funding
