Job Description:

Meets with patients to coordinate surgical dates and reviews preoperative instructions, including bowel preparation and medication restrictions. Registers patients and procedures with the appropriate hospital scheduling department and coordinates cases requiring multi-specialty surgeons or assistants. Correlates pre-admission testing and surgical clearance appointments, assisting patients and families with hospital information and accommodations as needed. Prepares patient chart orders for the surgeon and obtains authorization for hospital admission from the patient's insurance carrier. Maintains and updates the physician's surgical schedule, coordinating patient procedures, meetings, and various appointments. Coordinates the surgical schedule with the dictationist for patient history and physicals, planning patient transfers from other facilities. Updates patient accounts with hospital pre-certification numbers, admission dates, and postoperative days to ensure timely billing of claims. Organizes information needed for appropriate billing, including operative, pathology, and code sheets, and performs charge entry for all surgical procedures. Enters new hospital patient demographics and charges, verifying that the surgical schedule matches the surgical charges entered. Maintains monthly totals of inpatient, outpatient, and assisted procedures, reporting the need for updates and corrections for accurate claim submission. Reports any unresolvable practice or system issues resulting in the untimely payment of claims to the supervisor and completes special projects as assigned.   • Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully accomplish the assigned duties and responsibilities of the position. [Preferred]

  • 1+ experience in an acute care hospital setting to include secretarial/scheduling experience [Required]
