Surgical Services Specialty RN Position: RN: Surgical Services Specialty RN Department: Pain Management and Surgical Services Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center Supervisor: Director: Surgical Services Employment Type: Traveler / Contract FLSA Status: Non-exempt Schedule: M - F, 40 hours/week anticipated Pagosa Springs Medical Center is seeking an experienced Surgical Services Specialty RN Traveler to support our Pain Management and Surgical Services team. This position works closely with specialty providers, medical assistants, schedulers, the Surgical Services Director, Clinic Manager, Nurse Anesthetists, and other key stakeholders to coordinate and deliver high-quality care for assigned specialty service line patients and their families. The role also serves as a nurse navigator, helping provide continuity of care from the initial hospital clinic visit through surgery and follow-up care, as applicable. The ideal candidate will be confident working in both clinic and surgical service environments, able to manage competing priorities, and experienced in patient navigation, care coordination, documentation, patient education, and follow-up on orders, referrals, and prior authorizations. Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited RN program required. Current RN license required. Current AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers required. Current ACLS certification required. Minimum of 5 years of outpatient and/or hospital nursing experience required. Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office and electronic health record experience, required. Cerner documentation experience required. Previous traveler experience required. Pain Management, Surgical Services, Specialty Clinic, or procedural nursing experience strongly preferred. Primary Responsibilities Coordinate care for assigned specialty service line patients from initial clinic visit through surgery/procedure and follow-up care. Serve as a liaison between the Specialty Service Line care team, Surgical Services, providers, and patients. Provide patient care within the RN scope of practice, including assessment, care planning, treatment support, monitoring, reassessment, and patient/family education. Follow up on outstanding patient orders, referrals, prior authorizations, and related documentation. Review chart preparation, including order verification, insurance authorization verification, and lab/radiology orders placed by the provider. Triage patient phone calls and route messages appropriately through the electronic health record. Respond to patient portal messages in a timely manner. Assist with medication administration using appropriate technique and dose calculations, and document accurately in the electronic health record. Provide education regarding medical conditions, diagnostic and surgical procedures, post-procedure care, and rehabilitation goals. Complete intake assessments, patient histories, medication/allergy reconciliation, and surgical/procedure history documentation accurately and efficiently. Submit booking sheets for procedures, injections, and surgeries as directed by the provider. Initiate and complete medication prior authorizations and DME paperwork as needed. Maintain clean, stocked, and prepared exam/procedure rooms, including maintaining sterile fields for appropriate procedures. Support clinical staff through training, education, mentoring, and collaboration. Maintain confidentiality, patient safety, infection prevention standards, and professional communication at all times. Work Environment Work is performed in a clinic setting with exposure to work stress, environmental stress, frequent interruptions, and frequent communication with patients, families, employees, providers, vendors, and the public. This position may also support surgical and procedural care coordination needs. The role requires strong organization, clinical judgment, communication, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Shift: M - F, 8-hour shifts. Start time rotates.
