Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Manager to lead and oversee all Sterile Processing Department (SPD) operations in a fast-paced Level I Trauma Center. This leadership role is responsible for managing department operations, supervising staff, ensuring compliance with sterilization and infection prevention standards, and collaborating with perioperative teams to support safe and efficient surgical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all Sterile Processing Department operations, including decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, case cart management, storage, and distribution.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support SPD Supervisors, Lead Technicians, and Sterile Processing Technicians.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, and employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with AAMI, Joint Commission, infection control, and hospital quality standards.
  • Oversee quality assurance initiatives, biological monitoring, sterilization documentation, and instrument tracking.
  • Collaborate with Operating Room leadership, Infection Prevention, Supply Chain, Risk Management, and other clinical departments to ensure instrument availability and surgical readiness.
  • Manage department budgets, monitor productivity, optimize staffing, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance, instrument repair, inventory management, and capital equipment planning.
  • Monitor tray accuracy, instrument availability, labeling, and workflow efficiency while driving continuous process improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of Sterile Processing experience.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required.
  • Strong experience in decontamination, sterilization, instrument assembly, wrapping, and surgical instrument processing.
  • Experience supporting specialties including Neuro, Orthopedics, Robotics, ENT, Transplant, GU, and GYN preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems is preferred.
  • CBSPD and/or CRCST (HSPA) certification required.
  • BLS certification not required.

  • Floating to affiliated campuses may be required based on operational needs.

  • Guaranteed hours with limited facility call-offs.
  • Travelers may be assigned to emergency response/storm teams as required by the facility.
