    Description

    GENERAL SUMMARY The Surgical Support Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and directing the actions of assigned surgical support technicians in the Operating Room. This position assists in the training, management and evaluation of the surgical support team and reports to department leadership. Collaborates with leadership and anesthesia providers to develop and maintain current standards of practice and care within the Operating Room environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborates with Educator and Anesthesia providers to develop and maintain orientation and ongoing education and training to assigned surgical support technician team. Leads assigned staff in training and competency regarding specific skills, serving as a resource in promoting knowledge and communication. Acts to correct observed deviations from expected job performance, behaviors and standards of care and/or reports such to leadership if beyond scope of authority. Provides timely performance feedback and evaluation documentation to assigned staff. Develops and initiates processes to promote safe and effective care in the O.R. Participates in departmental quality and performance improvement projects and advocates for a continuously effective staff workflow. Assigns, coordinates and supervises tasks appropriately to promote a productive workflow. Assists anesthesia with IV starts, induction, intubation, extubation, and other technical procedures as needed under the supervision of anesthesia providers. Performs other duties as assigned. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic preferred. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent required. At least one year of previous pediatric and/or cardiac health related experience preferred. BLS and PALS required. Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care procedures as it relates to anesthesia, electrocardiograms, airway support devices, peripheral line access devices, pressure waveforms and cardiovascular monitoring technical procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS Surgical areas work environment with occasional exposure to unpleasant odors from disinfectant solutions/chemicals. Frequent exposure to infectious agents when cleaning equipment and handling needles. Potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
