Job Summary

Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
  • Hands required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
  • Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
  • Maintains instruments in an organized manner and monitors/tracks instruments counts throughout procedures.
  • Places equipment and supplies in the operating or labor & delivery rooms and arranges instruments according to preference cards.  Cleans and checks equipment area.
  • Hands instruments and supplies to surgeon, holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs other technical tasks as directed by surgeon during operation.  Orders, stocks, and maintains supplies for the OR and C-section suites.
  • Organizes in preparation for end of case and assists in clean up and turnover of rooms.  Disposes of all sharps, biohazardous waste items appropriately.  Handles specimens properly.
  • Reports observations of changes in patient's conditions and level of consciousness to an RN or LPN in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED. Completion of Surgical Technologists course from an accredited facility.

  • Experience:

  • Must be able to work variable shifts, holidays and/or weekends.

  • Must be able to take call rotation when required.

  • Must be able to perform all duties, including lifting and transferring, using proper body mechanics.

  • Licensure/Certifications: BLS

  • Preferred Requirements

  • Experience:

  • Knowledge of hospital environment desired.

  • Previous hospital and/or health care related experience preferred

  • Licensure/Certifications: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist)
