Job Summary
Responsible for assisting surgeon in the office, surgical centers, and hospitals. Responsible for obtaining patient vitals, documents, and entering patient information into EHR/EMR.
Responsibilities
- Functions as first scrub in all specialties, as determined by the Clinical Coordinator
- Prior to the first case of the day, damp dusts all flat surfaces in the operating room
- Organizes table set-up using appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment for each procedure prior to the start of the case and maintains a sterile field according to departmental policy and procedures
- During each procedure, anticipates surgeon's needs for instruments, suture, sponges, etc.
- Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to departmental policy and procedure. If count is incorrect, follows correct department procedures
- Adheres to principles of aseptic technique during all phases of the surgical procedure
- Assists in maintaining physician preference cards. At completion of case, assembles all instruments and supplies and transports to decontamination area according to departmental procedure
- Assists RN circulator and ancillary personnel in preparation of OR Room for general/terminal cleaning at the end ofthe day
- Thorough knowledge of handling instruments and surgical equipment used throughout the operatingroom. Cleans and prepares for sterilization or usage, instruments or equipment requiring special handling according to departmental procedure and manufacture's direction
- Takes initiative to notify Bio-med and/or maintenance of defective equipment as established by equipment in good working order on a routine basis. Maintains room supplies and furniture to ensure adequate levels for surgical caseloads
Qualifications
Education/Experience
Include minimum education, technical training, and/or experience required to perform the job.
- High School Diploma required
- Graduate of a Surgical Technologist degree program required
- Surgical Technologist certification required
- Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider required
- Strong proficiency in computer based programs such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work well with other team members and consultants in remote offices as well as independently
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in a complex, matrix environment
