Weekday call: 19000700 following scheduled shift
Weekend call:
Saturday 0700 Sunday 0700
OR Sunday 0700 Monday 0700
Required response time: 30 minutes
Job Summary
The Surgical Technician III works under the direction of the circulating RN and surgeon to provide safe, efficient surgical support throughout operative and procedural cases. This role requires advanced technical competency, strict adherence to sterile technique, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced operating room environment.
The Surgical Technician assists with room setup and turnover, maintains surgical asepsis, anticipates surgical team needs, and supports specialty service supply management. The ideal candidate embraces continuous learning, demonstrates professionalism under pressure, and contributes to quality patient care and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain sterile surgical fields
Assist surgeons and RNs during procedures
Ensure adherence to surgical asepsis and safety standards
Perform room turnover within established OR timelines
Coordinate workflow with circulating nurses throughout procedures
Manage and maintain specialty service supplies and implants
Support inventory stocking and ordering processes
Expand clinical knowledge and maintain competency standards
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years of Surgical Technician experience
Previous hospital OR experience required
Education
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program required
Certifications
Current Surgical Technician certification required:
AST (Association of Surgical Technologists) OR
NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing)
Current BLS certification required
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and sterile technique
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Strong organizational and critical thinking abilities
Experience with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications
Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-pressure situations
Detail-oriented with strong technical and procedural accuracy
Spanish language skills preferred
Physical & Technical Requirements
Ability to distinguish colors, sounds, smells, and temperature changes relevant to patient care
Ability to read preference cards and electronic documentation accurately
Comfortable troubleshooting surgical and patient care equipment
Effective verbal and written communication in English required
