What will you be doing in this role?

The Medical/Surgical Technician is an allied health professional who under the supervision of physician(s) supports and assists the physician(s) and clinical staff in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of patient care duties and tasks related to surgical patient needs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in assessment of patient ability to follow directions/instructions.
  • Assists in treatment and care of the surgical, pre, or post operative patient.
  • Provide education involving the care and plan of treatment of the surgical patient. (i.e. proper care of wound site, bandages, sutures).
  • Assist with execution of minor surgical procedures and services for the surgical patient. (i.e. inspect and adjust bandages needed for surgical, pre or post operative care).
  • In the event of an emergency, apply recognized first aid procedures.
  • Provides and documents patient, family education and teaching.
  • Greet patients and provide an initial evaluation as needed.
  • Sets up exam room/procedure rooms appropriately based on patient visit needs.
  • Assist provider in examination/procedure rooms as needed.
  • Assist in follow-up scheduling needs; assist in overall surgery scheduling as needed.
  • Answer patient calls, questions and addresses problems in timely fashion.
  • Communicates all significant clinical findings to MD.
  • Serves as liaison with other departments, facilities, and hospital as needed.
  • Assists with administrative support activities as delegated.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Vocational/Technical Diploma of an accredited Surgical Tech program

Work Experience

  • 2 or more years of experience in an inpatient or outpatient medical setting with Surgical Tech specialty experience required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
