PeaceHealth is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join the Operating Room team at St. John Medical Center in Longview, Washington.

Role Details

  • Position: Per Diem/Relief
  • Shift: Day shift
  • Schedule: 10-hour shifts, variable days
  • Unit: 5 OR Suites
  • Equipment: DaVinci XI robots for general and GYN surgery
  • Hospital: St. John Medical Center is a 177-bed acute care facility that offers the intimacy of a community hospital paired with the resources of PeaceHealth, a mission-driven healthcare system in the PNW.

Compensation & Benefits We also offer:

  • A wage range of $40.26 - $60.76 (wage dependent upon several factors including surgical tech experience and terms of the SEIU Technical union contract).
  • 15% relief differential in lieu of benefits.
  • Additional compensation for CST: $3.50/hr evening shift differential for applicable hours.

Position Details This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.

  • Arrange and inventory sterile set-up for operation and pass items as needed to the surgical team.
  • Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
  • Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
  • Access computer information as needed such as preference lists and digital images.
  • Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required: Completion of a Surgical Technology Training program.
  • Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration.
  • Required: Basic Life Support Certification for healthcare provider.
  • Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patients needs.
  • Preferred: 1-year surgical technologist experience in a full-service Operating Room.
  • Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist.

Skills

  • Well organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision.
  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications.
  • Understanding of operating room protocols.

Working ConditionsLifting & Patient Handling

  • No greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, grasping.
  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs., Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force, Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental & Physical Requirements

  • Visual: Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
