Role Full-time .9 FTE and 1.0 FTE Surgical Technologist positions available

Schedule: Work either three 12-hour shifts, day shifts, or four 10-hour mid-even shifts

Location: Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, Oregon

Unit: 25 OR Suites that include 2 CVOR and 2 hybrid

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange and inventory sterile set-up for operation and pass items as needed to the surgical team
  • Understand and apply the principles of asepsis
  • Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment
  • Assist in preparation and moving of patients
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instrumentation
  • Assist with clean-up and room turnover
  • Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images
  • Participate in all safety initiatives and adhere to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist
  • Surgical Technologist Certification from nationally accredited certifying organization for surgical technologists
  • Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patients needs
  • Preferred: 1 year of experience as a surgical technologist in a full-service operating room

Skills

  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
  • Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills, including MS Office applications
  • Understanding of operating room protocols

In lieu of the above education and certification requirements, must have completed a US Military Surgical Technologist Training Program and have completed 16 hours of continuing education every two years.

For those who have practiced surgical technology in a healthcare facility in Oregon or another state or as an employee of an agency or institution of the federal government for at least two of the three years prior to January 1, 2017, certification is not required, but caregiver must have completed 16 hours of continuing education every two years.

Working Conditions

  • Lifting: Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting
  • Frequent reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, grasping
  • Lift, carry, push, pull frequently up to 15 lbs., occasionally up to 20 lbs.

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
