Job Title: Survey CAD Technician

Job Description

The Survey CAD Technician uses AutoCAD and Civil 3D to support civil engineers and surveyors by producing high-quality drawings, layouts, and design documentation for survey, municipal, and land development projects. This role initially focuses on a large, high-profile survey project and then expands to a variety of civil and land development assignments. The position combines technical drafting expertise with strong collaboration skills to deliver accurate, timely, and client-focused design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Produce precise drawings using computer-assisted design and drafting equipment and software, with a primary focus on Civil 3D and AutoCAD 2D.
  • Review and analyze sketches, drawings, notes, and verbal instructions from engineers, surveyors, technicians, or designers to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete each assignment.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, surveyors, technicians, project coordinators, project managers, and support staff to produce complete drawing sets and layout data.
  • Revise, update, and modify drawings as needed to reflect design changes, field information, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Plot, organize, and assemble project-related documents to create comprehensive and well-structured plan sets.
  • Apply knowledge of survey practices, engineering principles, machines, mathematical formulas, and physical sciences to develop accurate and constructible drawings.
  • Adhere to established company standards, methodologies, and drafting protocols to ensure consistency and quality across all deliverables.
  • Maintain strong internal and external client relationships by providing responsive, professional, and solution-oriented support.
  • Work toward and achieve defined performance objectives and financial metrics as outlined in key performance indicators.
  • Support a large, multi-million-dollar survey project as an initial primary assignment, then contribute to a broader portfolio of survey, municipal, and land development projects.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support project and team needs.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience using Civil 3D for CAD design and drafting.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for 2D drafting and design.
  • Practical knowledge of survey projects or basic survey principles.
  • Ability to interpret and translate sketches, notes, and verbal instructions into accurate CAD drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in producing and revising drawings.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, surveyors, technicians, project coordinators, and project managers.
  • Capability to follow established drafting standards, methodologies, and quality procedures.
  • Solid understanding of basic engineering practices, mathematical formulas, and physical sciences as they relate to drafting and design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of specific experience as a Survey CAD Technician.
  • Experience working on survey projects within a dedicated survey department.
  • Experience with land development and municipal civil design projects.
  • Familiarity with municipal engineering and related civil design workflows.
  • Experience using MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Interest in working on power and energy, municipal, land development, and oil and gas related projects.
  • Motivation to contribute to a dynamic, problem-solving team environment focused on client-centric solutions and community impact.

Work Environment

The role is primarily office-based and supports a flexible, professional work schedule of approximately 40-50 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The first 90 days are fully in-office, five days per week, to support training and onboarding. After this initial period, the position offers a hybrid schedule with approximately three days in the office and two days working remotely each week, subject to project needs and performance. You will work with modern CAD tools, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and potentially MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, within a multidisciplinary environment that serves power and energy, municipal, land development, and oil and gas markets. The culture emphasizes dynamic, daring, and diverse thinking, encourages innovative problem-solving, and focuses on empowering people to do their best work while contributing to client success and community betterment.
