Job Title: Survey Crew Chief

Job Description

We are seeking a Survey Crew Chief to join our Indiana operations and offices. The Survey Crew Chief will be responsible for measuring, inspecting, updating, and documenting various types of surveys using specialized surveying instruments. These surveys are essential for the creation of topographical maps and boundary surveys, as well as for construction layout purposes. This position is a long-term, strategic hire located in and around Central Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and operate equipment used at surveying job sites.
  • Measure, record, and calculate data based on readings from instruments.
  • Lay out and recover markings, stakes, and other signifiers at job sites.
  • Maintain survey monument tie sheets including horizontal and vertical data.
  • Perform surveying calculations such as traverses and level loops for public lands survey monumentation.
  • Conduct land surveys for maintenance, location, and relocation of section corners using GPS and conventional surveying equipment.
  • Perform construction surveys for roads, bridges, development sites, buildings, and other properties.
  • Conduct surveys to define boundaries of real property and establish rights-of-way on county roads.
  • Resolve title discrepancies through surveys.
  • Perform basic field calculations including closing and adjusting level loops and calculating coordinate data for GPS navigation.
  • Utilize various instruments including levels, total stations, and GPS equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance of data collectors and daily downloading of field data, along with field notes.
  • Check as-built conditions using surveying techniques.
  • Prepare documentation of survey activities.
  • Maintain condition and adjustment of surveying equipment.
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
  • Compile notes, sketches, and records of data obtained and work performed.

Essential Skills

  • 5-10 years of field surveying experience.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Trimble equipment.
  • Experience conducting ALTA and construction staking surveys.
  • Willingness to travel out of town when needed (approximately one night a week).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and survey calculations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • UAV license is not required but would be a plus.
  • AutoCAD experience is not required but would be a plus.

Work Environment

This position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions. The role requires working regular construction hours, typically from 7 AM to 4 PM.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Trafalgar, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $42.00/hr.
